Copa America 2015 soccer: Peru beat Venezuela 1-0, scores, highlights
Update: Peru win the game by beating Venezuela 1-0
update: Finally the impossible looking goal comes. GOOOOOOOOOOAL! Peru 1 (74 mins – Claudio Pizarro) Venezuela 0. The breakthrougj has happened. Guerrero’s touch creates the space for Pizarro inside the area, who smashes a finish in off the underside of the bar.
After 55 minutes both the teams are still goalless. 0-0
Peru and Venezuela, both are playing great soccer in the Copa America 2015. At the end of the 40th minute, both the teams are 0-0 and haven’t been able to score a single goal.
Venezuela seem to be doing better than anticipated. The team that scored a single goal in all of the tournament in the year 1991 during the Copa America and mind you that goal was against itself, it seems to have come a long way. The way they have been able to hold a rampaging Peru till now shows that the team has worked seriously over the last few years and that it can be taken lightly at one’s own peril.
The way they played against Columbia in their last game also proves my point. Their impressive 1-0 win over Colombia seemed to be improbable given the fact that they beat the Colombian side in almost all aspects of the game. There is no denying the fact that their efforts including discipline, high line pressing and opportunism to create goal scoring chances and the eventual goal were very impressive indeed. It must be stressed here that the team could have done a lot better and might have won with bigger difference with better finishing, but that was not necessary. What mattered is that the Venezuelans managed to kill off a Colombian attack that looked like it could take down any side at this point last year.
At the end of 33rd minute Peru are very much on the front foot now, taking advantage of their man advantage. They attack down the now-vacated right flank, winning a corner. Pizarro rises to meet it, but he’s called for a foul as he attempts to climb over the back of the striker.
In the meantime the Peruvian side is left with 10 men. A report says, “It seems a bit harsh on Amorebieta, in fairness. He duels with Guerrero on the right, along the touchline. The ball is released by the striker before going to ground, and the Middlesbrough-man comes down hard with his studs to the thigh as he attempts to jump over him. The contact looked incidental, but Amorebieta did little to avoid the stomp, eitherâ€
