CHIP Eyes Raspberry Pi with $9 computer with 4GB storage
This is simply unbelievable. A startup based in California, US is raising funds to come out with an unbelievably inexpensive computer that will cost less than $10 or $9 to be precise.
The computer will come in its as basic form as possible, but will still have an operating system and a web browser. So to access internet you will not have to open your expensive machines.
It is needless to see that the pricing seems to be the biggest eye-opener for most of us. Though computers have become very cheap compared to the past, they still cost more than $100 in any given form.
The start-up, Next Thing is seeking not millions of dollars but just $50,000 to complete development of the credit-card sized Chip computer. The company has announced that the cheapest computer will come loaded with 1Ghz processor, 512MB of Ram and 4GB of onboard storage.
Next Things says that it wants to launch the product in the market as early as the beginning of the nest year. if true, this is going to become an inexpensive opponent of the popular Raspberry Pi barebones computer.
There is no denying the fact that the Chip shares some technical elements with the Pi in that it is built around an Arm chip but it includes some networking technologies, such as wi-fi and Bluetooth 4.0, that are not present on the standard Raspberry configuration. On the other hand the company is also working to come out with a version of the Chip into a handheld gadget called the Pocket Chip that will sell for about $49.
