The troubles have started troubling the company once again. Carnival Dream, Carnival Legend, two Carnival Cruise Ships have been stranded. Here are pictures, video

Just a month ago a Carnival ship was stuck at the sea and now once again one of its ships is in trouble at St. Maarten. The reliability of the Carnival ships is in question after one of its largest and newest cruise vessels, the Legend, faced problems with the momentum system, power failure and also the toilets on board stopped working on Wednesday.

The Legend was on the verge of ending its 7-day cruise that departed from Tampa on Sunday. “Carnival Legend is experiencing a technical issue with one of the ship’s Azipod units that are affecting the vessel’s sailing speed,” the cruise company, Carnival said in a statement. “The ship’s safety systems and hotel services are all functioning normally.”

According to a Coast Guard spokeswoman, Petty Officer 3rd Class Sabrina Laberdesque, the ship executives told them that they had a problem with their emergency diesel generator which powers the propulsion system of the ship.

However, Carnival has declined any power outage on the Legend.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in a statement, “Yesterday, during regularly scheduled testing of the ship’s emergency diesel generator, a malfunction occurred. At no time did the ship lose power and the ship’s propulsion systems and primary power source was not impacted. The ship is at dock in St. Maarten. All guests are safe and comfortable. There were periodic interruptions to elevators and restroom services for a few hours last night. However, all hotel systems are functioning normally and have been functional since approximately 12:30 a.m.”

Gulliksen further added that “each of these (Carnival cruise issues) was different. All modes of transportation, including cruise ships, have strong overall safety records, but sometimes technical issues such as the one Carnival Dream is experiencing will occur from time to time. We take each one seriously and closely examine what happened to determine how we can prevent it from happening in the future. Safety is always our foremost priority, and we have maintained a very strong safety record over our 41-year history.”

The Carnival Dream started its voyage from Florida on Saturday with 4,300 passengers and 1,300 crew on board. The ship was scheduled to stop in Nassau, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Phillipsburg, St. Maarten and finally returning to Port Canaveral on Saturday. It was believed to leave St. Maarten on Wednesday, Carnival officials said.

Carnival informed that they have arranged commercial and private jet flights for the passengers to fly back home from St. Maarten. Carnival also said that passengers on board “will receive a refund equivalent to three days of the voyage and 50% off a future cruise.” And those travelling on the March 16 cruise get a full repayment and 25% off on a future seven-day cruise. Non-refundable shipping will be refunded.

“Yesterday was a scheduled port of call visit to St. Maarten. Guests were able to spend the full day in port and have the option of continuing to do so until their scheduled return home.  All of the ship’s activities and facilities are fully operational,” the Carnival said in a statement.

“We are very sorry for this disruption to our guests’ vacation plans and extend our sincere apologies. We look forward to welcoming them back on another Carnival cruise.”

Coast Guard spokeswoman Laberdesque said that they are trying to monitor the situation and that they are in contact with the cruise ship captain on this matter.

“It’s going to be under investigation, what happened, we just don’t know when,” she said.
