Canada vaccination: Are 95 percent or 85 percent Canadians vaccinated?

How many people in Canada are immunized? I am sure many people will think that almost everyone in Canada must be immunized given its development and economic prosperity.

But alas, it is not the case and though the Canadian government believes that around 95 percent people across the country are immunized, there are many who don’t believe in its assertion.

Unicef, on the other hand claims that the Canadian government figures are not correct and that the level of immunization in the country is considerably lower than what the government claims. According to the UN body’s 2013 report this level is not more than 84 percent.

Unicef ranks Canada not among the top ten most immunized nations, nor even in the top 20 slots. Unicef says that Canada ranks a lowly 28th among 29 industrialized countries.Measles outbreak triggers fresh emphasis on MMR vaccinations

This, according to experts, is due to the fact that Canada actually does not have a national vaccine registry, and most provinces do not gather data on vaccine delivery. On the contrary the vaccination rates are estimated through household telephone surveys, the latest of which was conducted in 2011 by Statistics Canada.

Experts are of the opinion that people who avoid vaccinations come from different groups. Some demand exemptions for their children for religious reasons, some on a retracted study that wrongly linked the MMR vaccine to autism and many others due to the fact that they don’t like government or pharma companies telling them what and when to do it.
