Boston Red Sox vs Baltimore Orioles: David Ortiz gets first Home Run in weeks
BALTIMORE: David Ortiz seems to be the most talked about player in the entire world at the moment. He is being talked for actually his first home run since May 19.
It is being said that the Ortiz’ eighth-inning homer would’ve been worth much more if it wasn’t for an error by Pablo Sandoval that led to the decisive run in the Orioles’ 6-5 win over the Red Sox. Nonetheless it was certainly enough to send a few positive vibes through an otherwise stoic clubhouse after the game.
After the game was over Dustin Pedroia while talking to the media sad, “We’ve got confidence in him. He’s swinging the bat better and being who he is…Obviously we need him. He’s a huge part of our order. And he’s going to get through it. He’s done it for so long. He’s going to be fine.†We have seen Ortiz getting day off against left-handed starters, but when he is in the Red Sox’ lineup don’t expect him to be taken out for late-game pinch-hitting appearances.
While talking about him and his performance Sox manager John Farrell says, “I have not talked to him about that at all…At this point, I wouldn’t look to do that.â€
We need to analyse rather minutely as to how the Red Sox’s fate changed in the recent past. The team went from having the 29th worst starting rotation out of 30 major league teams to a respectable starting five didn’t happen overnight.
There is no denying the fact that the whole turnaround took time. But such changes and improvements always take time. It is being said that Carl Willis arrival was timed almost perfectly with the improvement from the starting rotation. In 28 games before Nieves was fired, the rotation had a 29th-ranked 5.54 ERA. In 33 games since, Sox starters have posted an 18th-ranked 4.12 ERA — and that includes a few stinkers thrown while the team was waiting for Willis to arrive.
