Blue Bell recall 2015: CDC asks people not to use its ice cream

This is one of the largest Listeria related recall and a CDC report claims that listeria outbreak related to Blue Bell ice creams has been going on for years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has claimed that the listeria outbreak associated with Blue Bell ice cream is going on for as many as five years.

The CDC has enumerated several listeria cases caused by Blue Bell Ice Cream and has pointed out to at least two different Blue Bell factories behind the outbreak. The health watchdog in the United States said that it has been going on since the year 2015.

There is no denying the fact that listeria is a serious infection that can also prove to be deadly in many cases. “A CDC report while talking about the infection says, “Listeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem in the United States. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected. The risk may be reduced by recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storage”.

People have been advised not to consume Blue Bell brand products. “CDC recommends that consumers do not eat any Blue Bell brand products, and that institutions and retailers do not serve or sell them”, the US health watchdog said in a statement.

It further said, “This is a complex and ongoing multistate outbreak investigation of listeriosis illnesses occurring over several years…Several strains of Listeria monocytogenes are involved in this outbreak. Information indicates that various Blue Bell brand products are the source of this outbreak.”
