Apple makes big bucks in India: insignificant market share, huge profit
Cupertino based Apple, the makers of iPhone and iPads may not be a big player in the Indian smartphone market as far as volume is concerned. But it has become a significant player as far as revenue is concerned.
Latest reports suggest that riding high on the success of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus the company’s sales have gone up by as much as 42 percent recently. In the meantine Apple is all set to register net revenue of over $1 billion from India this year. this is the first time that the company is going to clock this much revenue from India, that has been on the margins of the company’s expansion plans.
While Apple works really hard to penetrate in the Chinese market, it doesn’t see the same sort of enthusiasm for the Indian market. This may be due to the fact that while China contributes a huge portion of its sales, India is still among the nations where it doesn’t expect to do well. This is because of the fact that India is still the market of entry level or mid-range handsets at best.
Latest reports suggest that Apple sold as many as over 1.3 million handsets this year compared to around 928,000 phones it was able to sell last year. A report in Economic Times claims that the reason of increased sales was the launch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
