Competition in smaller tablet segment is set to intensify. Apple iPad Mini 2 Vs Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 Vs Google Nexus 7 2 comparison makes interesting reading.

After the release of iPad Mini 2, the real quorum for midsize tablet battle is filled. We already had the latest Google Nexus 7 (2013) and Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch in stores. Here we would like to compare these three major candidates for the small-screen tablet scuffle. It will help you very much if you are in confusion of choosing a mini tablet PC.

Size & Form: Small and pocketable size is the key attraction point of a mini tablet. All devices in debate have around the same size. You have iPad 2 with the dimensions of 7.9 x 5.3 x 0.3 in and weight of 11 oz. Nearly the same is the size and weight of Nexus 7 2 as it measures at 7.9 x 4.5 x 0.3 in and scales up to the same 11 oz. In case of Kindle Fire HDX, it is goes at 7.32 x 5.04 x 0.35 in with a weight of 10.97 oz.

Display: Here iPad mini 2 stands out with a bit larger 7.9-in LCD screen. It is in fact a device in 7-inch range, but Apple has put its size at 7.9-inch to match with its mainstream iPad’s 9.7-inch display in reverse.

Thanks to Retina tech, the huge 2048 x 1536 pixel screen makes the device distinct from its Google and Amazon alternatives. In case of Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX, both the models have 7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

Firmware: As you can guess, the new iPad mini has the new iOS 7 out of box. If you go for it, you will be lucky enough to enjoy a variety of new features and enhancements including a simple interface, icons and more.

The new Amazon tablet has Android 4.2 under the hood, which works nice with Amazon’s Fire OS 3.0 UI. Being the newest Nexus device, Nexus 7 2 has the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Well, it has debuted the 4.3 JB.

Processor: The second gen of iPad mini is grabbing power from Apple’s new A7 chip that works in help of 1GB of RAM. In this regard, Kindle Fire HDX will outdo both its rivals as it accepts juice from a solid quad core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800-based processor and 2GB of RAM. Nexus 7 2 has a 1.5GHz quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, and 2GB RAM onboard.

Camera: When it comes to cameras, iPad mini 2 has 1.2MP front and 5MP rear sensors. Kindle Fire HDX 7 only has a 1.2MP front sensor, while Nexus 7 2, different from its original, has 5MP camera also apart from a 2.1MP front snapper for video chatting.

Connectivity: Major connectivity options of the models include Wi-Fi and 4G LTE. The new Nexus 7 tablet has NFC also for making connection with nearby NFC-enabled gadgets.

Memory: You can get iPad mini 2 in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB flavors. Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 and Nexus 7 2 are only available in 16GB and 64GB variants at the same time.

Price: It is the prime factor that brings ultimate success for a midsize tablet in the end of the day. Customers go for small tablets not only for comfort in handling, but also for their small prices. So the gadgets that have less cost will be sold out more in market. That is a fact.

In this regard, both Kindle Fire HDX and Nexus 7 2 will have an edge as they are cheaply priced at $230 (16GB models). Apple has kept up its tradition of pricing high for its models, with iPad mini 2 starts at $400.
