Things are looking very exciting about it. Here we take a look at Apple iPad mini 2 rumors, release date, specs and everything you need to know

It is the right time for Apple to step forward with its new-gen iPad Mini. The competition in midsize tablet market will soon move to a new lane with Microsoft’s Windows 8 has started to appear in small tablets. It puts Apple in some more pressure and the company will soon come up with the second edition of its smaller tablet PC, the iPad mini 2. It seems that we are quite closer to the official unveiling of iPad mini 2.

Apple first launched a small iPad late last year. It was really an outcome of the huge requests from iPad fans, who wanted a mini version of the market-dominating tablet PC. But, sadly the much-hyped iPad mini came out only with scanty specs and features, missing a Retina display, better processor, RAM and many other important aspects. It has now built up the thrust for a second generation iPad covering all major shortcomings.

Now, as per the grapevine, the new iPad mini will sport a Retina display that is almost as sharp as the iPhone 5’s display screen. It will satisfy the customer demands for the Apple’s high-res display on the new iPad mini. In fact, the old iPad mini has a low resolution of 1024 x 768, but the new version of the device will come with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels at a whopping pixel-per-inch density.

According to the news site Brightwire, AU Optronics is evidently making a 7.9-inch panel with that resolution. It would feature a pixel density of 324-ppi, which falls just behind the latest iPhone 5’s 326-ppi. It is also expected that Apple will quite likely launch the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 in the same month. But, there is no definite word about the exact release date of the iPad mini 2 as well as iPad 5.

The International Business Times reports that the new iPad mini would come mid-September. The next iPhone, a cheaper iPhone and the iPad 5 will also come about in the same timeframe. So far, the operating system version for the new iDevices, the iOS 7 is already out. Apple has just rolled out the third beta of iOS 7 nearly three weeks after its official release at the WWDC 2013.

Regarding the display resolution of iPad nini 2, there are conflicting reports, however. DisplaySearch, noted ExpertReviews, has recently said that the next mini iPad would just be released with the same 1024 x 768 resolution of its original model, in spite of the contrary reports from other sources.

“The new iPad mini will continue to use a 7.9-inch display with as 1024 x 768 resolution, but it will use the iOS 7 operating system and an A6 processor, in a slimmer design than the current generation,” Richard Shim of DisplaySearch has said.

Meanwhile, some sources have claimed that Apple would be planning to launch different versions of iPad Mini with varying screen resolutions. But ExpertReviews says it is not convinced with that claim. “This sounds like a recipe for disaster, with Apple running the risk that it would annoy its customers,” said one of the analysts of ExpertReviews.

Ludlow’s overall view is that the iPad Mini 2 could probably end up with the same resolution as the full-size iPad. This way, the Cupertino tech giant will only need to get developers to write apps for the one screen resolution.

In spite of all contentions, the new iPad mini is around the corner. It is surely to get additional processor performance thanks to its supposed Apple A6X-based processor that is currently in use in iPad 4. There is also a claim that Apple is to replace it with a brand new A7 chipset, but we are not sure at all about the upcoming device in detail.
