Apple has just updated its new mobile operating system with iOS 6.1. The new firmware is up with a variety of security fixes and feature enhances. The chief feature of iOS 6.1 is the expansion of 4G LTE compatibility to more carriers around the world. Here we are up to make a comparison between iOS 6.1 and the latest Android update, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. In fact, both the software updates have brought in entirely different features to their respective devices. Anyway, it is interesting to put iOS 6.1 in a comparison to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Notable Features
Regarding iOS 6.1, it is a slight update with only some security fixes and feature enhancements. As noted above, iOS 6.1 adds 4G LTE capability to more carriers across the world. In the U.S., it extends 4G to various iOS devices on carriers like Alaska Communications, C Spire, Alaska GCI, Bluegrass Cellular, Pioneer Cellular and Cellcom.

As per Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of Worldwide Marketing, “iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads.”

The new iOS update also adds the capability to let users purchase movie tickets through Fandango in use of Siri voice recognition app. Fandango is a U.S.A-only service and so this feature is open for the U.S. customers of iDevices only. Further, “iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud,” Apple says. The iOS 6.1 also adds a new button to resent the Advertising Identifier.

The new Android 4.2 update also brings a range of advanced features to the Google mobile OS. First of all, it adds the capability for users to set individual user profiles for different users as it is in a Windows PC. “With support for multiple users, you can give each person their own space. Everyone can have their own home screen, background, widgets, apps and games – even individual high scores and levels!” Google says defining the major flavor of Android 4.2 update.

Moreover, the new Android update lets users enable wireless display. Using this capability, users can quickly share YouTube videos, movies and other video content on a larger screen, monitor or an HDTV. Daydream is another exciting feature. It is meant to help you see useful information when the device is idle or docked. The device will show off photo albums, new updates, Google Currents and more even while the device is in idle mode or on a dock.

Hardware Compatibility
The new iOS update is designed for all the latest versions of iDevices that include iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. As per Apple, iPhone 5, 4S, 4 and 3GS, iPad 4, iPad 3 and iPad 2, iPad Mini and the new versions of iPod touch will support the firmware. It is available for download for free on Apple’s official website.

When it comes to Android 4.2, it is currently available only for Google’s Nexus line of gadgets. So, it runs on Nexus 10, a Samsung-made large-screen tablet, Nexus 7, Asus-built small-screen tablet and Nexus 4, the latest generation of Nexus smartphone from LG. It also runs on Galaxy Nexus, the third generation of Nexus phone.

Google has not yet availed the firmware on other regular Android devices. However, all recent Android phones will likely get the update sooner. We can soon expect the rollout of 4.2 Jelly Bean to the devices like Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X and other higher end Android gadgets in a few months.

Other Features
Both the iOS 6.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean keep other features like user interface the same as their former versions. There are no changes in such basic aspects of the operating systems. They mainly differ from their older versions with the addition of some new features. Anyway, both the firmware updates are now available for users to download and install.
