It was the real bombshell. Angelina Jolie mastectomy or breast removal surgery news has stunned the entertainment world (video)
Angelina Jolie breast surgery is talk of the whole world. One of the most gifted actors on planet earth who is known throughout the world for her philanthropy as much as for her looks has almost threw a bombshell of sorts when she told the world through an article in New York Times that she had gone for double Mastectomy or removal of both the breasts. She said that there was very high chance of her being affected by breast cancer and as doctors said that it was the only way to avoid breast cancer, she underwent the surgery. She in a very passionate article said that despite breast removal she was the same mother who loved her kids and will hug them the way she used to do.
She also said that she underwent the double mastectomy as after many tests she and her husband became sure that it was the only chance to beat the breast cancer monster that had also inflicted great pain to her mother. The actor said that she underwent the surgery after getting to know that there was 87 percent chance of her getting breast cancer. Now after the breast removal operation, the actor says the threat of her being affected by the deadly disease has decreased to just 5 percent.
To be true, it was such a sudden announcement and came so much without warning that her fans were simply dumbfound. Since her announcement the news has gone viral on internet and has been trending on Facebook, Twitter and Google. Her fans are all praise for one of the best Hollywood actresses and suggest that making the choice must have been very difficult for her and her husband Brad Pitt. They also agree that not just undergoing the breast removal surgery must have been very difficult for her, letting the world know about it must have been equally difficult for the actor who has three biological children and three adopted children. Angelina Jolie while writing in New York Times said, “My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman…Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65 percent risk of getting it, on averageâ€.
An overwhelmingly large number of people are supportive of her though many others wonder that this procedure may not be possible for many people because being too costly. Most of the people are appreciative of her courage to undergo the surgery and let the world know about it. A reader says, “So happy to see this from a ‘ public figure ‘ – – My only sister had breast cancer at 27 yrs. old. . .and died when she was 33. . .leaving 2 little babies. I’m 12 years older and thinking: “I’d better pay attention ” !! So, of course I have my check-ups etcâ€. The actor said that because of this gene, known as BRCA1, her doctors estimated she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. Her mother died of cancer at the age of 56, she said. While writing in NYTimes she says, “Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy…I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complexâ€. Some others fear that due to the breast removal, she may not look the same Angelina Julie that she was.
