AMU’s Dept of English mourns demise of Prof Iqbal Hasan
Aligarh: The Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University today mourned the sad demise of Professor Iqbal Hasan, who passed away recently after a prolonged illness of cancer. The condolence meeting was held at the Seminar Library of the Department of English.
Late Prof Hasan, who joined the Department of English as a lecturer in 1961 and retired as a Professor in 1997 is remembered by his students and colleagues in the university for his excellent academic career, his thesis on Robert Bridges and numerous scholarly papers published on Bridges and Tennessee Williams in publications of national and international repute.
In his association of 36 years with the Department of English, AMU, Prof Hasan earned the reputation of being a dedicated and selfless person.
Prof Hasan’s colleagues and students have said that even while battling with cancer, he remained silent, patient, resolute and concerned about others.
“While we mourn the loss of a colleague, we feel blessed and honoured that he was a part of our lives,” said the teaching staff of the Department of English adding that they extend their heartfelt condolences to his son Dr Asif Hasan and the rest of the family.
