Aligarh: In a ‘Green University Project’ initiative by the Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd), around 200 high wattage streetlights on the stretches of the University Road and Engineering College Road have been replaced with energy efficient LED lamps.

“This important initiative has been taken for energy conservation in the AMU campus,” said Dr Mohammad Rihan, Convener, Green University Project Committee.

Dr Rihan further informed that this replacement will result in saving of about 20000 watts as the energy consumption on these two roads will be reduced by 70%.

He also pointed out that similarly other high wattage streetlights on various university roads will be changed with energy efficient LED lamps. “Considering the benefits of replacing these street lights, the university administration is willing to replace lights in phases at other areas in the campus,” added Dr Rihan.
