AMU prepares for bicentenary birth anniversary of Sir Syed: Best book to get Rs 100k award
ALIGARH: The Aligarh Muslim University will establish a Centre for Interfaith Dialogue in order to fulfill Sir Syedâ€™s dream of making society more tolerant and liberal. It was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, in connection with the Bicentennial birth anniversary of Sir Syed.
Starting of a Foundation Course on Sir Syed was also discussed in the meeting to increase awareness amongst University students about the founding father, who stands tall amongst the builders of modern India.
It was decided that an award of Rs. One Lakh each will be given to the best scholarly book on Sir Syed in Urdu, Hindi and English languages. For this, scholars from all over the world will be invited to author a 200-page book in the language of their choice.
The University will also Christen a building of the University as a memorabilia of the bicentenary birth anniversary of Sir Syed. On this occasion, a Sir Syed Album will also be published to showcase photographs representing historical events. A picture exhibition has also been finalized at the Moinuddin Art Gallery of the University on October 17, 2017, besides organization of an international seminar to mark the occasion. AMU will also publish a Bibliography of Sir Syed, along with special issues of monthly Tahzibul Akhlaq and Fikr-o-Nazar. All the Halls of residence will organize symposiums to facilitate deliberations on the revival of Sir Syed mission.
It was decided in the meeting that the Post and Telegraph Department will be persuaded to release a postal stamp to mark the two hundredth birth anniversary of Sir Syed.
The Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has reiterated that a Sir Syed Public School will be opened in every district of Uttar Pradesh and the first school in this chain has already taken material shape at Jaula village of Muzaffarnagar district. He said that he has received proposals from about 25 districts to open school under this project. Gen Shah informed that the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has assured financial assistance in this project.
Gen. Shah pointed out that noted film artist Mr. Naseeruddin Shah will be requested to play the main role in the feature film on life and times of Sir Syed, which has been proposed by the University.
