Shimla: Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh, was presented a draft of Rs. 1.5 crore by Shri Jagdish Toshniwal, Business Head, Ambuja Cements, Chanchal Kumar, Unit Head and Dinesh Sharma, Assistant Vice President, yesterday evening, as second installment of the Rs. 4 crore funding agreed to by the Company for laying of synthetic track in Dharamshala to provide world class sports infrastructure to the budding sports talents.
Chief Minister thanked the Ambuja Cements for providing Rs. 4 crore to lay synthetic track at Dharamshala which was fast coming up as a prominent world class sports destination making addition to the existing world class cricket stadium constructed in the town. He said that Ambuja Cements had already contributed Rs. 75 lakh and with the installment of Rs. 1.5 crore the total amount would now be Rs. 2.25 crore. He said that it would help in speeding up of the synthetic track laying process and efforts were being made to complete the same on war footing so that training of the budding sports talents could be started. He said that Dharamshala had emerged a pilgrimage centre due to the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama since large number of his followers from the world over visit him round the year, but a prominent tourist destination of the State having unique natural grandeur features. He said that with the completion of the synthetic track laying more sports activities would be started in the town thereby giving boost to sports tourism activities in the town. He said that additionally astro-turf hockey stadium was being developed in Una which would polish hockey talents of the State to exhibit their talent at national and international-level.
Prof. Dhumal said that two of the cement companies were funding two synthetic tracks in the State out of which one was being laid at Hamirpur with the funding of ACC and other at Dharamshala with Ambuja Cements funding. He thanked both the cement companies for funding two important sports projects where the youth would be getting latest world class sports training facilities within the State. He appealed to the corporate houses in the State to come forward to emerge a partner in the social and development process in the State thereby contribute significantly in making Himachal Pradesh a Model State in real sense. He said that corporate houses needed to take inspiration from Cement Companies funding synthetic track projects in the State and there were so many other programmes where such corporate houses could contribute.
