Floyd Mayweather Jr ridicules hall of famer Freddie Roach following Canelo Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight
Many people were thinking on similar lines and now the biggest name in the boxing world has expressed his thoughts a bit loudly on the issue. Freddie Roach who has coached many top of the line boxers including Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto besides Amir Khan of the US has been praised by many.
But after the latest loss for Miguel Cotto at the hands of Canelo Alvarez, there are murmurs that Freddie Roach is not successful. It is being said that many top boxers who migrated to him from other coaches couldn’t change much when it comes to techniques.
To be fair, Amir Khan whose chin was said to be among the weakest in the boxing world remained susceptible to his shortcomings and couldn’t learn much from Roach. Following frustration with several losses, he changed his coach and since then he hasn’t lost a single fight. His technique has improved, so has his defense.
One of the best fighters in the history of boxing who remained undefeated till the end, attacked Roach by saying, “If your coach knows you’re losing in the fourth round, if that was the case, that’s when a trainer needs to step up and say, ‘You know what? Pick up the f—–g pace. You losing.’ Or, ‘F–k it! Go out like a soldier! Go for the knockout.’ If you get caught, that’s part of the game. But s–t, the name of the game is kill or be killed. You gotta sacrifice something to get somethingâ€.
Cotto vs Canelo fight, despite being very enticing was heavily loaded in Alvarez’s favor. His punches were very powerful and his defense was impeccable.
While taunting the hall of fame coach Mayweather said, “I hear people talking about Freddie Roach is a legendary trainer, but I think Cotto was fighting the same way before he got with Freddie Roach. I think Pacquiao was fighting the same before he got with Freddie. Both guys were already world champions before they got to Freddie Roach…But when Pacquiao lost to Marquez and he lost to me, they still keep talking about how legendary the coach is. When are y’all going to get on the coach’s ass and say, ‘You know what? This coach done a f—-d up job.’â€
