Acer Iconia A1 7.9 to give tough time to Apple iPad Mini

There is no doubt that Taiwanese tech company Acer’s Iconia A1 7.9 will give tough time to Apple iPad Mini in the days to come

Even though the market for the budget 7-inch Android tablet is already crowded to the brim, it has not deterred Acer from launching yet another tablet called Acer Iconia A1 priced at $220. The 7.9 inch tablet is the third product announced by the tech giant this year.

With a view to fortifying its presence in the low cost Android tablet market, Acer’s latest offering Iconia A1 has a solid-feeling and reasonably attractive with thick plastic design with a white back. At 0.44 inch and weighing 0.9 pound, the tablet sports a 7.9-inch, 4:3 IPS display (1,024×768 pixels), the same size and resolution as the display on the iPad Mini. This should be a big help with PDFs and e-reading, since it’s more like the dimensions of a sheet of paper

A quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a smallish amount of either 8GB or 16GB onboard storage fits the bill for “budget,” but there are some decent extras. The Iconia A1 runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2, and has a built-in 3G option in addition to b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. Front- and rear-facing cameras shoot at 0.3 megapixel (640×480, 30 frames-per-second video) and 5 megapixels (1080p 30fps video), respectively. An expandable microSD slot supports up to an extra 32GB of memory. There are Micro-USB and HDMI ports. Gyroscope and GPS are included. The tablet is powered by a 3,250mAh battery

The Acer Iconia A1 with 8GB and 16GB of memory will be available in June Based on its aggressive feature set and fuller screen, it could merit some consideration in a crowded field. and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. It is priced at 169 Pounds, which translates to $220 or Rs. 14,080.

It is pertinent to mention here that Acer is already offering its Iconia B1 tablet with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) in India carrying a price tag of Rs. 7,999. This tablet was unveiled at CES 2013. It sports a 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor (MTK 8317T) alongside 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
