After the high comes the low. Reports suggest that the day 2 box office collection of Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam has dropped by more than half. This is going to be way more disappointing for Ranbir Kapoor and his fan base who were hoping that the Kapoor boy was emerging to be another Salman Khan of India’s booming Hindi film industry Bollywood.
Reports suggest that the Day 2 box office collection of the film may not be more than Rs 7 crore. And if this is true, the fall in day 2 collection will be more than 60 percent. Rs 7 crore estimate of box office collection comes from a tweet by leading analyst Taran Adarsh.
Despite taking a beating down from the critics and a certain section of movie goers, Abhinav Kashyap’s latest outing Besharam starring Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda is going strong at the box office after registering a thumping opening.
Beating the opening collections of Ayan Mukherjee’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, Besharam earned approximately Rs 20 crore on the first day itself. In a tweet Trade analyst Taran Adarsh stated: “Big holiday [2 Oct] + Ranbir after #Barfi and #YJHD + Massive release… #Besharam should’ve collected Rs 25 cr+ on Wed. It didn’t! #Besharam – India *early estimates*: Wed Rs 20 cr+. Today [Thu] and tomorrow [Fri] are crucial for #Besharam. The film will have to maintain the momentum to post a healthy total.”
The rom-com starring the entire Kapoor clan including Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor saw a 3600 screen release on October 2, Gandhi Jayantii. The enthusiasm for the film that was heavily promoted by the makers saw a a good amount of advance ticket bookings besides registering 90-95 percent occupancy rate in both single screens and multiplexes, making it’s the third highest after Chennai Express and Ek Tha Tiger. The film opened to a thunderous response in the Delhi, NCR and East Punjab circuits from where it netted the maximum first day collections. It did an average business in remaining circuits including UP, CP and CI.
Though the movie is still going strong, though not as much as was expected, it was out rightly rejected by some movie goers who were quick enough to pronounce their verdict on the internet.
Meanwhile Taran Adarsh says that the collection seem to have dropped significantly on the next day. “Besharam Day 2 figure is looking at ₹7.13 cr [or slightly more] ranges”, says he.
