Apple A7 Vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 fight is going to begin. But who actually has the upper hand in this intense fight?

Alongside its new iPhone 5S, Apple has formally launched its brand new Apple A7 processor at its media event on Sept. 10. It is a successor to the company’s A6 chipset that features inside the iPhone 5. The new chip has indeed made its debut in the new edition of Apple smartphone, which is about to go for sales across the world. Apple claims that its new chipset is capable to provide two times better performance than its predecessor.
The new Apple mobile processor has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset as its great rival. It has been just a while back that we received the brand new chip form Qualcomm, which is now accepted by a lot of major tech giants including Samsung and Sony for their top products. In other words, nearly all major high-end phones in the world market feature Snapdragon 800-based CPUs. So here we pit the A7 for a comparison with the S800.
Apple A7 – Specs & Major Features
The major highlight Apple shows off its A7 chipset for is the thing that it is built under a 64-bit architecture, and thus is the world’s first mobile chipset to go beyond 32-bit architecture. Because of this, Apple claims the chip can provide twice better power, but this theory has been largely refuted by tech analysts. Many specialists claim that 64-bit won’t work with a phone that has system memory less than 4GB.
As the Cupertino tech major quickly clarified it the A7 is Apple’s first 64-bit system-on-chip (SoC). It means the apps running in the new iOS 7 will also be 64-bit-based ones, although it is compatible to 32-bit apps, luckily. As per Apple, the new chip can provide 56-times faster performance over the original iPhone, and enhance CPU performance 40-times faster than the first iPhone, and twice faster than A6 of iPhone 5.
But analysts argue that a handset with 64-bit processor should at least offer 4GB RAM. If not, Apple’s claim that the new chip would bring “64-bit desktop-class architecture to a smartphone for the first time” won’t do justice. Any performance gains the new iPhone 5S has will likely be coming from the enhanced architecture in A7, and not because it has a 64-bit CPU, says Patrick Moorhead, analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.
Apart from this, the new A7 chipset has supercharged graphics powers and it also offers a fresh motion-sensing M7 chip that will boost the graphic power of all iOS devices. The new M7 co-processor can also save battery life and inject stability to the device’s processor performance.
In terms of hardware support, the new A7 chipset is basically meant for iDevices like iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini. But, adding 64-bit architecture to the pack, there is a distant chance that Apple may take up the chips for its lineup of PCs, notebooks and more in place of Intel chips.
Snapdragon 800: Specs & Major Features
The new Qualcomm mobile chip has been introduced with the claim that it could represent a leap forward in performance and energy efficiency. To an extent, the chipset is doing justice to the maker’s claim, because it is reviewed to be providing better performance and energy efficiency. In comparison to A7 chip, Snapdragon 800 is just a 32-bit processor.
In regard of processing, the S800 features 28nm HPm quad core Krait 400 processor that is clocked at 2.3GHz per core. Further, it has LP-DDR3 memory for high performance and low latency and Adreno 330 graphics that can deliver up to 50 percent increase in graphics performance. In terms of hardware, it has already appeared in many spotlighted products like Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note, Sony Xperia Z Ultra and more.
