Shah Rukh Khan at 48 years of age has still the ability to romance onscreen and produce the biggest blockbuster. Box office collection comparison of Chennai Express vs 3 Idiots vs OUATIMD.
After more than three weeks in theatres Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express has finally emerged as the highest grossing film in the country beating 3 Idiots, Ek Tha Tiger and many other films. The film’s journey was more than sort of fairytale as it crossed Rs 100 crore mark within just three days.
Till Chennai Express happened, no other film had done this in such a short period of time. Earlier the record of the fastest Rs 100 crore box office collection was with Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger that collected this amount in merely 5 days. But in fact this was simply not enough for the film to take rest and get involved in chest thumping.
Though collections after first weekend slowed down considerably, but it didn’t slow as much as to stop Shah Rukh Khan’s film from crossing Rs 150 crore mark in the first week and beating Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots Rs 202 crore collections almost by the end of the second week.
It was simply a dream run for the film as in international market the film created many records too beating many records established by Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan in the last few years. In Pakistan, the film became a massive hit and beat all records of success for Indian movies. Many people have tried to compare Akshay Kumar with Shah Rukh Khan. But to be true he has never shown the guts to actually challenge Shah Rukh. His latest film Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara has turned out to be a disaster at the box office, creating tension between him and Ekta Kapoor, who produced the film. The film couldn’t manage more than Rs 60 crore at the box office despite being made with a huge cost of Rs 90 crore.
Without doubt many people who said SRK is past his prime are eating their words. Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Chennai Express has turned out to be the biggest hit of all time in India’s history collecting more than Rs 401 crore at the box office in India and abroad. Shah Rukh Khan has beaten Aamir Khan’s film 3 Idiots that collected around Rs 398 crore at the box office. Many people were claiming that notwithstanding the fact that Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express has broken 3 Idiot’s box Office record in India, but it may not break its international record. And many really believed the claim. But now after breaking box office collection records in India and abroad, Aamir Khan can rest easy at the moment. A report in the Box Office Capsule sais that Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express has collected Rs 401 crore at the box office in India and Abroad. Its India collection has crossed Rs 222 crore.
