Ranchi: In a daring attack, Maoists in Jharkhand have attacked and killed a Superintendent of Police (SP) in Amarpara in Kharkhand along with seven other policemen. This is the worst attack against the police in the state in the last few years. The incident comes merely a few weeks after another daring attack on Congress rally in Chattisgarh where state Congress Party chief was killed.
Syed Ahmad, the governor called for an emergency meeting of his officials and rushed several top officials to the spot where the attack and the killings took place. He immediately sent state home secretary NN Pandey and DGP Rajeev Kumar besides several other top officials to the spot.
Reports suggest that Maoist ultras attacked three vehicles including the one in which SP was travelling from both the sides of the road and ensured that the SP was dead when they left the place. Reports indicate that there were around 100 heavily armed Maoists, who were informed that the cavalcade of SP Amarjit Balihar was to pass through Amrapada main road, were waiting to ambush them. The escort party of the SP was caught unguarded as bullets zoomed in from both sides of the road. Before the policemen could even aim their guns, the SP was killed. The Maoists fled from the site after committing the crime.
