Update: India 38/1 after losing Sharma, Dhawan, Kohli at the crease
Update: It is playing hide and seek, rain after being back has just stopped
Update: start at 3.45pm with 24-overs- inning match. Finally a match
Update: Still raining heavily, no respite
Once again rain is creating havoc with the match. More than an hour’s match has already been lost today after heavy rains started lashing Edgbaston, Birmingham immediately after the toss was over. AN Cook, the England captain won the toss and asked India to open.
So far at least fifteen overs must have been bowled, but till now we all are awaiting the rains to stop. Though right now there are no rains for the last five minutes, but the clouds are so dark that it seems if it restart raining, it wouldn’t stop before at least 2-3 hours. But right now as there is no rain, mopping off of the stadium has begun and may be, yeah just may be the match can begin if it doesn’t really rain. The umpires and referees will inspect the ground almost half an hour from now and decide as to when to begin the match, in case the rains don’t arrive by the time.
In the meantime Indian team will be coming out with the same team they played not just during India vs Sri Lanka match, but also the same team that has played in the last five matches. To be true, the Indian captain has gone with the same team in all the games played so far. And someone has rightly commented that two things haven’t changed during the tournament, the first is the rain and the second thing is the Indian team.
And by the way when a team is performing so well, where is the need to change the combination. Many had expected Irfan Pathan to play during the Championship trophy. But he played horribly during the warmup games and so there was no need to try him.
Indian team is in terrific form and all the members of the team are playing like a very well-knit unit. Not just batting is great, bowling too has been magnificent throughout the tournament. The best thing about India at the moment that has amazed the whole cricket fraternity across the world is not batting, but its pace attack. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Yadav have emerged as the biggest threats to their opponents and given their great form the trio is going to destroy the opposition batting attack quite easily. Kumar, who is just 23 year old, has shown to the world that India too can produce great bowlers who can be lethal for the opposition teams. The same is true about Yadav and Ishant Sharma. The three will play a great role in today’s match if India have to win the game against England today.
When it comes to batting, there is no team in the world cricket that comes even close to the Indian team. The top order is very gidted and middle order is well endowed. Dhawan, Vijay, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, all have played very positively. For India to win this match too, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will have to play his aces deftly to give his team a great win today. He has performed almost in every match and has one of the highest scores in the tournament so far. He has scored 332 runs in just four matches. Here is no doubt that he is in a killer form. There have been only three centuries scored in this edition of the tournament and two have been hit by Dhawan himself – the third one is by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. Besides him ‘Sir’ Ravindra Jadeja too will have to play his part with both bat and ball. Despite beign very young he has become almost indispensible for Dhoni’s playing 11.
