He is the biggest money maker among all athletes. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Canelo Alvarez or Mayweather Jr vs Amir Khan speculations are doing the round in boxing world. But nothing is certain till now
Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez fight in September is being increasingly talked as a sure shot. Both camps seem to be in late stage of talks on working out modalities to actually sort out things and finalise everything in advance. Immediately after winning his last fight against Robert Guerrero, Mayweather jr announced that he was ready for September fight. Though Mayweather Jr’ last fight was not as impressive or as one sided as his earlier fights used to be, nonetheless he was able to hold on his own in the eye of ferocious attacks by Robert Guerrero who never really gave up and was working hard even in the 12th round. The fact that both the boxers were standing their own after a full 12 round fight was enough proof that not really anyone dominated the fight.
But the next fight is going to be very different than any previous Mayweather Jr fight. Canelo Alvarez is a fierce fighter who is on the pinnacle of his career. He is a rising star who has shown great prospects in the ring against boxers of top quality. So there is high level of anticipation for Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez fight.
Though earlier there was frantic demand for Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao fight but not anymore. Earlier Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao was being talked about as being the matchup that could get boxing back on track. The two sides could never come together, and then Pacquiao suffered losses to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
But to be true, Manny Pacquiao has lost the lustre as a credible fighter after two back to back humiliating defeats. A report in Bleacher Report says, “Due to the fading stock of “Pac-Man,” it’s no longer the most desirable fight available. That honor now goes to Mayweather and Alvarez. The tough part will be getting an agreement in place that satisfies both camps. It’s always a challenge for big fights…The good news for boxing fans is that Dan Rafael of ESPN reports Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions is working with both sides in an attempt to find common ground. Mayweather is expected back in the ring in September”.
Though there are some reports of Manny camp considering another rising star Amir Khan for a September faceoff but it looks unlikely right now as Amir Khan seems ill prepared. He has lost his two of last four fights and his two last wins have not been very impressive either.
