Both are good handsets running on different OS. Lumia 520 Vs Sony Xperia Tipo is turning out to be Windows Phone 8 vs Android budget phone war
New entry level smartphones let first time buyers get cool handsets. We have recently heard that Nokia’s Lumia 520 basic Windows Phone 8 handset has come to certain markets. We wish to pitch Lumia 520, the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device, against one of the cool Android low price phones, the Sony Xperia Tipo for a comparison. Enjoy our Lumia 520 Vs Xperia Tipo comparison below. It will let you find the best phone.
Size & Weight: Being budget models, Xperia Tipo and Lumia 520 are two tiny phones. They respectively sport 3.2-inch and 4-inch screens. The Windows phone is doing well in thickness with just 9.9mm, while the Tipo wins in weight thanks to 99.4 grams. The Tipo is thicker at 13mm and the Lumia 520 is heavier at 124 grams. When it comes to other dimensions, the Lumia phone is taller at 11.9mm and wider at 64mm. It is when the Tipo is taller at 103mm and wider at 57mm.
Display Screen: As we put it above, the Tipo and 520 respectively mount 3.2-inch and 4-inch display panels. The former one uses a TFT panel that has a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels at 180-ppi. It is made resistive against scratches with a scratch-resistant protective glass. Meanwhile, the Lumia 520 features a rather good display. Its 4-inch screen is made of an IPS LCD panel with a rather better pixel resolution of 480 x 800 pixels at 233-ppi. It also features scratch-resistant glass.
Software: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is the firmware that runs the Sony budget phone. Sadly enough, against the former decision, Sony has decided not to update this phone with any new firmware. The Lumia 520, at the same time, is the cheapest handset with Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8, needless to say, has lots of cool features including a tile-based home screen and many performance capabilities.
Processor: The Sony Xperia Tipo outfits an 800MHz Cortex-A5 processor with a Qualcomm MSM7225AA chipset, which gets extra power from 512 MB of RAM and an Adreno 200 GPU. Of course, the Lumia 520 is more powerful when compared to Tipo given that it packs a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8227 dual core CPU, 512MB RAM and an Adreno 305 processor.
Storage: It is of big importance today that a phone should have better internal memory. The Sony affordable phone packs only 2.9GB of internal memory, while the Lumia Tipo has 8GB onboard. Both the devices have microSD slots respectively to hold up to 32GB and 64GB memory sticks.
Camera: The cheap Android phone from Sony touts a 3.15MP rear camera with geo-tagging. The bottom-line Lumia 520 has a rather better 5MP rear camera. Meanwhile, both the devices miss out secondary cameras and so video chatting is not possible if you have these phones.
Connectivity: On the connectivity side, both the handsets have all basic and important options. They house features such as GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth. Indeed, these things are enough for the devices to keep you connected with the world.
Price, Availability: In India, these phones are almost equal in price. Sony sells a single SIM model of Xperia Tipo for around Rs. 9000. Its dual SIM variant comes for just around 10,000. On the other hand, Nokia is about to release its cheaper Windows Phone 8 handset for something just below Rs. 10,000. The device will soon be available from stores now.
It is now up to you to decide which phone is the best one for you. Going by technical specifications, it seems that Lumia 520 is further rich than the Xperia Tipo. But, Tipo runs Android ICS, and Lumia 520 has Windows Phone 8 under the hood. So, as per your tastes, you can pick either Sony Xperia Tipo or Nokia umia 520.
