Tiger Woods is in the midst of success and laurels once again. He is among the top golfers the world has ever produced and the world cannot stop admiring him and his brilliance in the sport. If anyone’s epithet had ever been written so widely and so comprehensively for reasons that had nothing to do with his decline in sports, it was he and no one else. His exploits in the bed and his bad boy image created in the aftermath of his scandals were made ground to write him off. To be true, he suffered from bad phase too as his wife, the top Swedish model, walked away with his two sons and millions of dollars worth his money as settlement amount for divorce.
This must be the most astonishing comeback made by any sports person in the history. For two years at least he remained down and out and tried everything very hard from changing his coaches to changing his style.
This is the first time in more than two years that Tiger Woods has got back to being number one. He reached there with a closing round of two-under 70 to capture the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational on Monday. With his latest success, the 37-year-old Woods replaces Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy atop the world rankings. His excitement was written all over as his excitement was palpable. “I’ve cleaned up a lot of different things in my game, and I’m very pleased with where it’s come along…I’ve turned some of the weaknesses that I had last year into strengths. I’m really excited about the rest of this year. As I said at the very beginning of the year I was excited because of how the end of last year turned”, Woods said after his historic win.
His latest win also explains the fact that Woods has now won 51 times in 55 tries when holding the lead entering the final round and is five wins shy of matching Sam Snead’s all-time record on the PGA Tour. He and Snead are also the only players to win the same tournament eight times with Snead doing it at the Greater Greensboro Open. “My short game, game-wise, came around, I thought my swing was getting better, my short irons got better…I’m getting there. I’m getting there…I’m very pleased that some of the shots that I struggled with last year are now strengths. One of the things that we need to continue to work on is getting it more refined, because my good ones are really good. Just making sure the bad ones aren’t that bad, whether it’s a driver, 3-wood, long-iron, wedge, whatever it is, that I’m missing the ball in the correct spots. That’s getting way better”, said he. He is enjoying the limelight and praise right now. He deserves it, there is no doubt about it.
In the meantime a Nike ad with Woods has become a bit controversial. The ad posted on Facebook and Twitter, Nike ad that includes a photo of Woods with the caption: “Winning Takes Care of Everything.” If you are an old Tiger Woods fan you will instantly understand as to what this ad means.
