Where’s my refund 2013: An aggrieved person’s feedback

This is an issue that has put many people under immense pressure. Where’s my refund 2012-13 is still making people wonder if hte issue will ever be resolved. Here is an aggrieved person’s comment

On March 18th 2012 I electronically filed my federal tax returns for 2011, and was due a REFUND. The next day I received an email informing me that my return was rejected and outlined steps to resolve it. I ended up calling the Social Security Admin to make sure there were no problems with my social security number, sent 45 minutes on the phone with them. Then I called the IRS, after sending nearly again 45 minutes verifying my identity to the IRS representative, was informed that someone else had already filed Federal tax return for 2011 and that the IRS had sent a letter to me stating that it was “FLAGGED” because the amount on the return was quote “really high”.

The representative informed me I need to go to my local police department and file a report for identity theft, and then fill out an affidavit and send copies to the IRS, and then as ell contact the credit reporting companies and go through there steps as well. I was told the first time that within one week an IRS advocate would contact me and keep me informed.

A month later after trying to call in I finally got a real person and then the IRS advocate stated he would open a claim. Gets better a month later in the mail I got a letter from the first case worker and he requested I resend ALL the paper work back in to the same address I had. I did that waited another month and called the case worker back and left a message, never got a reply call from him, then I got another letter from the case worker asking AGAIN for all the paperwork.

Between March 2012 to September 2012 I resent 4 copies of my Federal tax returns. Once a month I call in and try to get an update, this past September got another letter from a new case worker. Coming this March 18th, 2013 will be ONE YEAR with only 2 returned calls from the IRS, I even filed a complaint with the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). That was pointless they could not give me any kind of answer at all, spent over an hour on hold while that person read my file.

I even contacted my state Senator, to see if He could help, that was pointless. I know even if my identity was stolen and it turned out I may have owed not getting a refund, the IRS would be knocking on my door wanting there money, but they take their sweet time in refunding a law abiding, taxpayer and American Citizen. This has been nothing but a nightmare for over the past year, and to make it better. I am owed a refund for 2012 Federal tax return, guess I can’t count it until next year. There needs to be reform done to lessen the total time it takes for the correct taxpayer an not this up to 180 days to resolve reply.
