Will India win today’s match? They are overwhelming favourites and so many fans across the country are of the opinion that they are set to cruise to victory as soon as match begins. Indian fans are expecting the English batting to come a cropper in today’s match here at Oval and then Indian batsmen win the match in style with more than a dozen or so remaining.
To be true, this will be a good answer to India’s humiliating defeat at the hands of England some two years ago and now the Indian fans are looking forward to take revenge in style and beat the hosts on their own turf in style. But this is going to be a tall order for the team India in today’s match. This is not just because their top batsmen are in great form, even their lower order has shown to the world in the current series that they can be more than a handful in the worst of circumstances. To be true, no other team possesses the sort of fighting skills that they posses. We have seen it repeatedly in this tournament and we experienced the same in many previous tournaments.
But India have aces that are not available to English team. And when they enter the stadium today they are unlikely to disturb their winning combination. Dhoni is not expected to pick Irfan Pathan for today’s match and will continue with his team that played against Sri lanka.
The best thing about India at the moment that has amazed the whole cricket fraternity across the world is not batting, but its pace attack. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Yadav have emerged as the biggest threats to their opponents and given their great form the trio is going to destroy the opposition batting attack quite easily. Kumar, who is just 23 year old, has shown to the world that India too can produce great bowlers who can be lethal for the opposition teams. The same is true about Yadav and Ishant Sharma. The three will play a great role in today’s match if India have to win the game against England today.
Besides the three young bowlers, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has to play his aces deftly to give his team a great win today. He has performed almost in every match and has one of the highest scores in the tournament so far. He has scored 332 runs in just four matches. Here is no doubt that he is in a killer form. There have been only three centuries scored in this edition of the tournament and two have been hit by Dhawan himself – the third one is by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. Besides him ‘Sir’ Ravindra Jadeja too will have to play his part with both bat and ball. Despite beign very young he has become almost indispensible for Dhoni’s playing 11.
