It is certain to add to tough competition in the market. Archos 97 Titanium HD Jelly Bean tablet vs Apple iPad 4: Specs, features comparison
Archos’ fresh Android tablet the Archos 97 Titanium HD is a copy of iPad in many aspects. The tablets look almost identical in form and they also share many features in common. However, Archos has designed its tablet in a way that it avoids a couple of possible trademark conflicts with iPad. Here we make a comparison between the new iPad 4 and the Titanium.
Display: Similar to iPad, Archos has placed a 9.7-in display on its tablet. It is an IPS panel with the same resolution of iPad at 2048 x 1536 pixels. The display touts 10-point capacitive multitouch capability. The latest iPad comes with an IPS TFT Retina Display of the same size and pixels. There is really no much difference between the tablets except for the fact that the Apple machine has its own Retina panel.
Processor: The Archos tablet looks more powerful than the iPad. It comes with a 1.6GHz dual core Cortex-A9 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a quad core Mali 400 MP4 graphical processor. The new iPad, at the same time, has a 1.4 GHz dual core processor that features Apple’s recent A6X chipset. The device mounts a PowerVR SGX554MP4 quad-core graphical card and 1GB of RAM for further performance.
Storage: Regarding internal memory, iPad is the dominant player. It is up in all key storage capacities; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. There is no microSD slot for memory expansion. Archos 97 Titanium HD has only 8GB internal memory, but the device is equipped with a microSD slot for up to 64GB memory cards.
Software: The most amazing thing with the Archos tablet is that it comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. The recent update to Google Android OS gives an extra score for the tablet. The Jelly Bean is able to give a fresh look, better performance and great voice recognition to the device. The new iPad, on the other hand, has iOS 6 under the hood. The newest update to the Apple mobile OS is rich with all major key features and capabilities.
Camera: In camera aspects also, Archos copies iPad outright. It has the same 5MP rear camera. For video chatting, it mounts a 2MP front camera and we have no information about the other camera features than auto focus. Meanwhile, iPad 4 shows off autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and 1080p video recording. It has a 1.2MP 720p camera for video chats.
Connectivity: The new iPad is an LTE device. It also has GPRS, EDGE, DC-HSDPA and EV-DO Rev. A for connectivity. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 2.0 port also add to its muscle. The new Archos tablet also has Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth.
Size, Weight: Both the tablets have almost the same size, weight and dimensions. But, in a comparison, the 97 Titanium HD is far thinner and lighter. It is 9mm thin and 640 grams weighty against iPad’s 9.4mm thin body that is 662grams weighty (the Wi-Fi cellular combo).
Price: Archos has not yet revealed both the price and release date of its Android tablet. Of course, let us expect the device for display at either of the forthcoming tech trade shows – CES or MWC. In case of iPad 4, it is available for grabs for a while in global markets. Its base model is priced at $499 like its predecessor. Each advanced memory version comes for a rise of $100. Apple is always blamed for its huge pricing. Anyway, let us expect the iPad killer from Archos for a smaller price, especially because it has lower internal memory.
