BlackBerry 10 new phone pictures teased, App World name changed

Research in Motion (RIM) seems to have leaked BlackBerry 10 new phone pictures. Meanwhile it has also renamed BlackBerry App World to BlackBerry World

Research in Motion (RIM) is hogging the limelight. Though it is yet to release its much talked about BlackBerry 10 QWERTY smartphone, there are signs of rejuvenation in an organisation that was being taken as junk. From junk status, RIM’s stock status have climbed to ‘buy’ status, a huge achievement for a company that seemed to have lost its way in the marshy terrain of smart-phone market that is developing at scorching speed.

Its market share is going down faster than anything we can imagine. The Ontario, Canada based company has lost considerable market share in almost all the markets in the world including USA. A latest comScore report says that in July this year Research in Motion’s BlackBerry had 9.5 smart-phone subscriber base in the US. But within three months it had lost around two percent market share and was left at just 6.7 percent of smart phone subscriber base at the end of October.

But right now BlackBerry manufacturers are working at breakneck speed to meet the deadline and get things ready before everything is lost. They are set to launch BlackBerry 10 on January 30 and getting app developers onboard is as important as having a great OS. On January 30, RIM will also launch one all-touch smartphone and another handset with a QWERTY keyboard. A report suggests that Ontario based company has handed over around 7,500 all-touch testing devices to developers.

Reports suggest that the company is poised to release the Dev Alpha C device. However this time round it does not plan to be as generous as previously. The Dev Alpha C is will be the full QWERTY device that Blackberry has traditionally released even as it moved towards touchscreens. The new devices will be given only to a “select few” developers, and that too after they satisfy certain qualifying criteria.

RIM has said that it will not give handset to everyone who call himself or herself a developer, but only those developers will qualify for consideration who can submit at least 2 apps for the Blackberry platform for evaluation. Even among them the devices will only be given to 1500 developers. The winners will be chosen based  on the number of points they acquire. Those who have already received Dev Alpha A or Dev Alpha B device get 200 points, as do Blackberry Elite members. Beyond that the more and better apps you submit the higher your points will be.

Notwithstanding all the excitement, things are not looking very easy for Research in Motion that controlled as much as 10 percent of the smart-phone market even last year. Its stocks nosedived depriving its investors as much as $80 billion over the years, the highest for any technology company in the world. There were even rumors that the company may take the route of Android for a revival, but somehow it seems to have shelved the plan and invest on what best it can offer on its own OS. To be true, BlckBerry made its mark by offering enterprise solutions and not on giving great entertainment options to its users and it is going to be the same thing in the future. The same market may ensure its success once again. But things are developing too fast and a Microsoft Surface phone may give another great platform to market leaders to adopt if things don’t improve with BlackBerry.
