Despite many people claiming otherwise Windows RT Surface tablet orders are poor and Microsoft has cuts orders as it prepares to release Surface Pro
Microsoft has reportedly cut orders for Surface RT. The Redmond software giant has reportedly reduced orders for the tablet from its Asian OEMs. As per reports, the company originally put an order of 4 million units, but was later reduced to 2 million evidently in the aftermath of lukewarm response to the Windows RT-based tablet. Is Microsoft Surface RT a failure?
If you ask this to the Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, he would say, its sales are “modest.” That means, not fair, indeed. Yes, Microsoft is forced to cut orders for the device, which the company hyped up to make a revolution in the global tablet arena. Instead, the Windows maker now seems to be giving focus for its upcoming Windows Pro hybrid tablet.
As per DigiTimes, Microsoft is to unveil Surface Pro early December due to the crumple of Surface RT. The Windows RT tablet is unlikely to get better sales in the next quarter as well. “Surface RT is also unlikely to achieve great performance in the upcoming quarter which may force Microsoft to bring out its Intel-based Surface Pro tablet earlier in December,” DigiTimes says referring to its sources.
Windows RT – Less Attractive
As per sales figures, not only Surface RT, but all Windows RT tablets are also not doing well. Asus’ Vivo Tab RT, Samsung’s ATIV Tab and Dell’s tablet also have less demand and hype in market. It means that the issue is mainly with the software, not hardware. People have less attraction to the hyped-up firmware, which was put forward by the company to dethrone the domination of Andorid and iOS.
Surface Pro Price Slash
DigiTimes’ source thinks that Microsoft will likely cut price of Surface Pro following the tepid response to Surface RT. The Windows 8 Pro tab was set to come for a price above $1000. There is a good chance that Microsoft may bring its price below thousand to avoid the kind of crisis that affected Surface RT.
“Microsoft may consider reducing its Surface Pro price to attract more consumers,” says DigiTimes. But, as the tech site noted, it might result in worsening the stalemate between Microsoft and notebook vendors. Companies like Acer have already lashed out Microsoft for developing own tablets and pricing them below their products. “Such a decision may put the already awkward relationship between the software giant and notebook vendors in an even worse situation,” says DigiTimes.
Surface Pro Teased
By the way, Microsoft has recently teased Surface Pro. The company is yet to divulge the exact release date and price of the tab. Meanwhile, Sizemore Capital analyst reckons Surface RT and Pro tablets will help Microsoft gain dominance over Google and Apple in the long run.
According to Charles Sizemore of Sizemore Capital, Microsoft can easily win over Apple and Google in future. ‘Microsoft will ultimately muscle out Apple as the leader in smartphones and tablets,’ says Charles. He thinks that Apple lacks a “long-term strategy” to keep its users loyal and it will end up in the gradual decline of the company.
“Where Android is concerned, Sizemore says he doesn’t take Google seriously as a long-term competitor because the company’s solutions are “shoddy” attempts at matching superior offerings from Apple and Microsoft,” says BGR.
Microsoft has to do a lot to remain a super power in tablet market as it wanted to be. It is not easy for the company, which faces critical threat from Android. It looks that apart from Apple and iOS, Windows 8 and Windows RT counter stiff challenge from Android. This platform is now more expanded with too many marvelous products.
