Nintendo Wii U release date has finally arrived and it will be available in stores beginning November 18. Meanwhile YouTube has launched an app for Wii
With the Wii U all set to be available in the shelves beginning today it was only appropriate that it should get something that it has missed for years – a YouTube app. Wii is not known for media, but then consoles are aggressively trying to reinvent themselves with added media functionality.
The Xbox 360 is well on its way to becoming a one-stop solution for all our media needs with streaming videos, music and of course gaming. And the Play Station 3 has had the YouTube app for a long time too. It was only a matter of time, the number three console should get its own media functionalities. The app is of course free.
The YouTube announcement said that the app was, “Designed for the big screen and Wii Remote, the new YouTube app for Nintendo Wii brings the YouTube videos and channels you love to your TV.” The app can be downloaded from Nintendo Wii Shop Channel. Owners of the Nintendo Wii can download the app today itself. YouTube says that it would be bringing the app to other countries soon.
The app has a simple and pretty interface designed to go with the Wii Remote. It provides access to all the basic YouTube features, and the also the channels you have subscribed to. You can rent full movies from YouTube too, but that would also be available through Netflix. Nevertheless an additional option won’t hurt.
