Both are great phones and Apple iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 920 comparison is all but natural. To be true, despite being weighty, Lumia’s specs are great
Nokia Lumia 920, the latest Nokia smart-phone running on Windows Phone 8 OS is receiving great reviews from both users and reviewers. Everyone is picking it as one of the best smart-phone to have hit the market and worthy of being picked up from among the top phones that have been launched in the last few months. With its great display, impressive design and top OS, it has everything that can make you fall in love with it. And it is just doing it superbly.
A Gartner report says that Nokia is betting big on its twin Windows Phone 8 handsets including Nokia Lumia 920 and its low end sibling Nokia Lumia 820. The Finland-based technology company had a particularly bad quarter as it was able to sell only 7.2 million handsets. With such low sales, the once’ top company was relegated to seventh rank when it comes to smart-phones.
But with the launch of Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, things are going to get better in the next quarter and there are already encouraging signs about it.
Alexandra Chang while writing in Wired is all praise for the super phone. “… it’s a stunning device with two killer features: An amazing display and an excellent camera. The 1280×768 pixel PureMotion HD+ display is one of the best I’ve seen…Most importantly, the Lumia 920′s camera is a winner. Nokia has been touting its PureView technology since the 41-megapixel monster showed up in the 808 PureView Symbian smartphone. The company has ported the software technology over to Windows Phone and slapped in a more modest 8.7-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. Photos are super-sharp, and taking photos in low light is impressive”. Other reviewers have praised the phone, though some people have complained about it being too weighty. It is around 180 grms too heavy for a smart-phone if you want to keep it in your pocket.
But the smartphone is going to face tough competition from many smart-phones that have been introduced in the market in the last few months including Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and Apple’s iPhone 5.
By the way both the Cupertino based Apple’s iPhone and Nokia Lumia 920 compete well on many counts. Apple’s smartphone is thinner and taller and comes with impressive body. Thanks to its 7.6mm body, Apple claims that it is the slimmest iPhone ever. The phone is taller because it comes out with a large 4-inch display. Unlike its previous editions, Apple has designed its brand new smartphone with a bit larger screen. The device is also lightweight at 112 grams. The new Lumia phone falls short to the Apple device both in weight and thickness. The device is thicker at 10.7mm and it has a heavy body of 185 grams. But to be true, when it comes to the body build, the 920 is quite smart. The phone keeps the same design of its WP 7.5 Mango version the Lumia 900. Nokia has created the device highly angular and it features a bold rectangular form factor with sharp corners and softened edges. It has a polycarbonate unibody, which makes it a sturdy handset. As well, Nokia is to ship the 920 in a variety of breathtaking colors.
One aspect where both phones look equally impressive is their display. Both the smartphones come with great displays. Cupertino based Apple has come out with very improved smart-phone. Changing from its traditional path, Apple has constructed its new phone with a 4-inch display. All the previous versions of the gadget have typical 3.5-inch screens. Thanks to an IPS LCD Retina display that offers better screen resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels at high density of 326 ppi, the new iPhone looks a quite fantastic to own. On the other hand Nokia has developed its new Windows Phone handset with a 4.5-inch IPS display. The device certainly defies iPhone 5 with its wonderful screen of 1280 x 768 pixel resolution at an outstanding 332ppi. Its display is further affluent with the company’s much-reviewed ClearBlack technology for great colors and contrast and the advanced PureMotion HD+ for evidently ‘better than HD’ clarity.
When it comes to power and processor, both are among the best in the market. Nokia has slotted a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 ARM Cortex-A9 processor in Lumia 920. The top-of-the-line semiconductor can certainly provide much strength for the device, which is to mount 1GB of RAM and Adreno 225 GPU for additional force. Of course, it is the first WP handset from Nokia to turn up with a multi core CPU. Regarding the processing unit of its new handset, Apple has just hinted that it will mount its new A6 processor. The company added that the new chipset will perform two times better than A5 in iPhone 4S.
Both smart-phones run on two very different operating systems. Nokia Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft’s most recent Windows Phone 8 Apollo. The firmware mainly shows off a set of exciting features including a Metro-style icons and home screen. The 2012 Apple phone is to preload the new iOS 6, which was demoed by Apple at its developer conference in June 2012. Meanwhile Finnish technology company’s Lumia 920 comes with 32GB of onboard storage, whereas iPhone 5 will have three memory variants; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB like its precursor. Both devices don’t have microSD slot for memory expansion. The Nokia and Apple phones will sport 8MP cameras on the rear panel. The first has a special PureView-branded camera with Carl Zeiss optics lens and better digital zoom. You can capture 1080p video using both the devices. Front cameras will let you make video chats. The handsets tout all major connectivity features. You have better Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE on the handsets. The 920 has NFC also, which Apple missed on its new iPhone.
To be true, both the smart-phones compete well on many counts and people are loving the two very different handsets.
