The three are among the best tablets available in the market. Apple iPad Mini Vs Google Nexus 7 vs Kindle Fire HD and their specs comparison makes interesting reading
Apple has just launched the cellular version of its iPad Mini, the 7.85 inch tablet. Though the device is a tad expensive compared to other smaller tablets launched in the market in the last few months, not many are complaining. Though the higher price compared to its competitors has given them more room to compete against it, Apple’s brand name is enough to make it a success in the market.
Apple recently released data about the initial sales of its iPad tablets and said that it had sold 3 million tablets in the first weekend following the launch of iPad Mini and 4th generation iPad, but it really didn’t tell as to how many units of which version of iPad were sold.
But later analysts from some other sources suggested that an overwhelmingly large number of Apple tablets sold were of iPad Mini version. In fact a report said that out of the three million iPads sold, two and half million were iPad Mini.
So the beginning has been rather very impressive by any yardstick. No other small tablet manufacturer was able to sell so many units of its tablets in merely three days. But iPad Mini is not going unchallenged in the market. Many market analysts have said that the $329 price tag is too high for a mid-sized iPad? Apple doesn’t think so. Its senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller has refuted the talks that the new iPad is too expensive. Talking to the Reuters, the Apple executive noted that people would buy the new iPad as they were happy to buy iPad 2 that was priced at $399. For that reason, Schiller means that new small iPad will not be beaten by its rivals in stores. “The iPad is far and away the most successful product in its category. The most affordable product we’ve made so far was $399 and people were choosing that over those devices,” Schiller said. “And now you can get a device that’s even more affordable at $329 in this great new form, and I think a lot of customers are going to be very excited about that,” he added.
Many people including market experts were sort of sure that the small tablet from Apple will come for a price that will match the pricings of other key small tablets like Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7. But, unluckily, Apple released the gadget with a higher price tag that puts its base model more than $130 expensive than the base model of Nexus 7. Premium models of iPad mini, which comes in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and cellular versions, will be further up in price. As noted above, the 16GB base model of iPad Mini comes for $329. The 32GB and 64GB are respectively up for $429 and $529. This is all about the Wi-Fi model. When it comes to the cellular edition that is to come out later you have to pay an additional $130 for each memory variant. Hence, the pricing will go like $459 for the 16GB and so on. Here let’s check what analysts are thinking about iPad Mini’s price.
Many analysts have said that when there are matching or even better small tablets there was really no need to go for Apple’s small tab. BGR’s Brad Reed has counted big price of iPad Mini as one of three reasons that want consumers not to throw out dinero for the device. Reed says that the gadget is too big and it might be ignored by customers as they are happy with the Kindle Fire HDs and Nexus 7 that are priced around $200. He also conceives that competitive pressure may force Apple to reduce the device’s price to $300 or even $250 in coming months. Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu has noted that it is not for the first time that critics have blamed Apple’s product pricing. He claimed that the tech maker has “matched pricing to demand again and again” during its rapid rise as the world’s most valuable company. Almost all Apple products have higher prices as part of this Apple strategy.
While further elaborating his view Brad Reed says, “This isn’t the first time many have questioned Apple’s premium pricing strategy…We have seen it with the iPhone, iPod, Macs, and even iPad. We would argue that Apple has a strong track record in pricing to optimize volume and profits unlike most competitors who need to price low to have a fighting chance.”
But there are others who say that though iPad Mini may be costlier than Amazon Kindle Fire and Nexus 7, but it is “more than just the sum of its hardware,” comments Jason Perlow in a CNET article. Citing various features and potentials of the mini iPad over its rivals, he claims that the device’s price has “nothing to with its Bill of Materials.” The Nexus 7 may have a quad core CPU, integrated RAM and high-res display, but as far apps and their usability are taken into account the iPad Mini is the best, he adds. After comparing performances of many common apps on both the devices, he says that iPad mini is worth its money. “If you want a Nexus 7, then buy it for what you plan to use it for and make sure the apps you intend to run on it meet your needs. Don’t buy it because it is cheaper,” he advises users, saying that iPad mini will be the best tablet to surf web, video chat and gaming. So it solely depends on you. The three tabs including iPad Mini, Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire Hd, all are great tabs and consumers need to decide whether they want to go for more pricey and less endowed tablets or would go for feature rich machines that are also reasonably priced.
