Apple’s latest smart-phone is not going to remain unchallenged. HTC 8X vs iPhone 5 comparison suggests that both come with great specs and features
The Windows Phone and iOS battle is set to go to a new level in market in coming days. Both the platforms are refreshed with great updates that tout many stunning new handsets and features. Here we go for an in-depth comparison between the new iPhone 5 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X, the reference handset of the software.
Software: We start with the software, because it is something that puts the devices in opposite sides. The iPhone 5 is the newest handset from Apple that works on iOS 6, the most recent update to iOS. In fact, the software debuted on this handset. The Windows Phone 8X, as its name suggests, is running Windows Phone 8. Well, it is the premier handset to get the software and it is also the signature version of the platform.
Display: Both the devices are almost equal in display size. The iPhone 5 has 4-inch screen and the HTC phone sports a slightly larger 4.3-inch screen. Apple has utilized LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen that offers a nice resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels at 326-ppi. The device also features Corning Gorilla Glass and oleophobic coating for securing the display from scratches.
HTC has slotted in an S-LCD2 capacitive touchscreen, which promises a rather better screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels at 342-ppi. Well, it looks that Windows Phone 8X is a wonderful product in all aspects like display size, resolution and pixel density. The display is laminated with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for better security against scratches and drops.
Processor: Both the phones are fitted with dual core processors. It is indeed a shortcoming of the handsets that have to take on a line of Android products that are furnished with high-speed quad core CPUs. The iPhone 5 is equipped with a 1.2GHz A6 processor, 1GB of RAM and PowerVR SGX 543MP3 graphical processor. At the same time, the HTC phone is up with a 1.5GHz Krait Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon CPU, 1GB of RAM and Adreno 225 GPU.
Storage: Like iPhone 4S, you can get iPhone 5 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. Unfortunately, Windows Phone 8X is only available in a 16GB edition. Both the gadgets don’t have microSD slots. That is, you have no option to expand the storage in help of external memory sticks.
Camera: You can see 1080p video recordable 8MP rear cams on both the handsets. They show off essential camera features like autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and touch focus. Anyway, iPhone 5 seems to be a winner in this category thanks to its advanced iSight camera. The handsets have 1.2MP (iPhone 5) and 2.1MP (WP 8X) front cameras for video chatting.
Connectivity: This is the first iPhone from Apple to get 4G LTE. Apart from the high speed cellular connectivity, the handset offers Wi-Fi, dual-band, Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth 4.0. It is when the HTC phone touts NFC besides Wi-Fi, dual band and Bluetooth 3.1.
Availability: Apple’s new handset is now already available. It is carried by AT&T, Verizon and Sprint in the U.S. Meanwhile, HTC will soon bring its phone to stores. Windows Phone 8 has just been released and the handsets with the software will be up there by November.
Price: Through a carrier, you can buy the new iPhone for $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB) and $399 (64GB). If you go for unlocked versions, you will have to spend around $600 even for the base model. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile sell Windows Phone 8X for $200. For an unlocked version, you will have to pay something above $600, of course.
