Barnes & Noble is to start shipping Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets by this week. The company is to deliver the pre-ordered devices at first. Sooner, the gadgets will be available for grabs at brick and mortar B&N stores. They will also be available in more than 15,000 stores including Walmart, Target, Best Buy and etc. The new Nook HD and HD+ come with 7-inch and 9-inch HD displays respectively.
“Our two new tablets offer the best quality reading and entertainment experiences, at the best price,” says William Lynch, the CEO of Barnes & Noble. “There’s no shortage of new tablets in the market, but with Nook HD and Nook HD+, every book read, every movie watched, every game played is rendered in a digital quality never before seen and unmatched by those other tablets,” Mr. Lynch adds.
Barnes & Noble has designed its new Android tablets to take on the new line of small tablets. The small tablet segment is increasingly growing with lots of products that now include Apple iPad Mini apart from the already available Google Nexus 7 and the already announced Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 and Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Some more players are also expected to arrive into the industry with exciting products.
“In the 7-inch tablet field alone there is Google’s Nexus 7, Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD and the newly announced iPad Mini,” says TechRadar. Well, the holiday shopping spree is about to go live. At the footstep of the year-end holiday season, we will be having all these tabs in stores. It will raise much confusion among customers in selecting a good gift for their friends or relatives.
Nook HD & Nook HD+; New Features
Apart from mere eReaders, the new Nook HD tablets are ideal products for video content consumption. Barnes & Noble has just beefed video offerings for the tablets just ahead of their releases. It has made deals with 20 Century Fox, NBC Universal and other studios for a big count of TV shows, films, sporting events and more. Consumers can subscribe the content by subscription for affordable prices. Users can also watch UltraViolet videos on the devices.
Nook HD & Nook HD+; Competitors
As we noted above, the new Nook HD tablets are to counter serious challenge on market. The 7-inch Nook HD will have to take on Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 primarily. Both the devices have 7-inch displays with the latter being the first small tablet with a quad core processor (Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core chipset). It has Android 4.1 Jelly Bean also. The new Kindle Fire HD is also a great product with high power processor and a skinned Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The 9-inch Nook HD+ mainly faces threat from Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9. The product is the result of Amazon’s strategy to place a product in a larger than usual 7-inch genre. Both the Nook HD tablets will find it hard in a clash against iPad Mini, a tablet with a 7.9-inch display, A6X processor and more than everything much fame and fanfare. The new small iPad has been designed by Apple with a goal to put defense against the growing and popular small tablet segment. It has heralded Apple’s foray into the small tablet genre.
Nook HD & Nook HD+; Prices
