Microsoft has formally launched out its new Surface tablets on Friday, Oct. 26. The Surface RT shipping has begun while Pro will take some time to come. It is sure that the Microsoft tablets may drive many consumers away from Apple iPad and Google Android tablets. It is said that the fourth generation iPad, which Apple teased at its iPad Mini press event on Tuesday, Oct. 23, will face some stiff challenge from the premium Surface Pro, which features Windows 8 Pro.

Here we go through seven exciting features that may give an edge to Surface Pro over the new iPad or all other iPads. Well, the Microsoft tablet is not an immaculate and perfect product. But, it has many advantages over iPad.

Larger Display: Surface Pro mounts a 10.6-inch large display, with which and its Touch Cover you can turn the device to a tiny Ultrabook. The display offers a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Meanwhile, iPad still has a 9.7-inch display. But, when it comes to screen resolution, the Retina display offers a stunning resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Anyway, many people will love a larger display on a tablet.

New Firmware: Surface Pro runs on Windows 8 Pro version. Unlike the Surface RT, it has the full-size Windows 8 so that you can use almost all apps that work on a Windows desktop. Windows 8 is an extremely new and innovative firmware. It is a superb Metro-style user interface. Microsoft has even ditched Start Button to make things simple and easy. The kickstand will add “No extra weight, no extra thickness” to the device, says Microsoft. It will be easy for users to use the machine as an ultrabook thanks to the kickstand and Touch Cover. USB Ports: Fans were really disappointed not to see a USB port on iPad when it was launched first time in 2010. The Cupertino tech maker has not yet introduced USB on iPad, which later got five models including the recent Mini iPad. It was rumored that Apple would launch the new Thunderbolt ports on the new iPads. But, that hope also did not materialise.

Digital Ink & Stylus: Microsoft has developed Surface Pro with the ability to accept stylus inputs. Microsoft Office: Well, both the Windows RT and Pro versions offer the company’s much-touted Office productivity suite. On Windows RT, it will have only a mobile-optimized version. But, Windows Pro is to offer the full program. That is, you can run MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote on Surface Pro as you can open them on a PC.
