Both are going to compete against each other in the days to come. Apple iPad 4 Vs Microsoft Surface Pro competition will be intense. Here we discuss 7 features that will help Pro win over iPad
Microsoft has formally launched out its new Surface tablets on Friday, Oct. 26. The Surface RT shipping has begun while Pro will take some time to come. It is sure that the Microsoft tablets may drive many consumers away from Apple iPad and Google Android tablets. It is said that the fourth generation iPad, which Apple teased at its iPad Mini press event on Tuesday, Oct. 23, will face some stiff challenge from the premium Surface Pro, which features Windows 8 Pro.
Here we go through seven exciting features that may give an edge to Surface Pro over the new iPad or all other iPads. Well, the Microsoft tablet is not an immaculate and perfect product. But, it has many advantages over iPad.
Larger Display: Surface Pro mounts a 10.6-inch large display, with which and its Touch Cover you can turn the device to a tiny Ultrabook. The display offers a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Meanwhile, iPad still has a 9.7-inch display. But, when it comes to screen resolution, the Retina display offers a stunning resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Anyway, many people will love a larger display on a tablet.
New Firmware: Surface Pro runs on Windows 8 Pro version. Unlike the Surface RT, it has the full-size Windows 8 so that you can use almost all apps that work on a Windows desktop. Well, it features Microsoft Office out of the box and you can further install all software items that are compatible for you PC.
Windows 8 is an extremely new and innovative firmware. It is a superb Metro-style user interface. Microsoft has even ditched Start Button to make things simple and easy. Instead, the screen will have a few tile-shaped icons and menus for easy access through touches. But, there is a criticism that the lack of Start Button is disturbing and dull.
Touch Cover: It will be a struggle for you to type on tablet as you are accustomed to do this on PC’s physical keyboards. Surface Pro offers a lightweight keyboard that you can purchase for $100. The 3mm thin Touch Cover has nice touch-enabled keys that will help you type text easily for mails, docs and others.
Built-in Kickstand: Well, Microsoft is really dedicated to pack easiness into its Surface tablets. The device comes with an integrated kickstand that you can use to place the tablet in landscape mode for comfort in watching movies, playing games or enjoying other features. The kickstand will add “No extra weight, no extra thickness” to the device, says Microsoft. It will be easy for users to use the machine as an ultrabook thanks to the kickstand and Touch Cover. Apple doesn’t offer such things for iPad, but you can get third party options, however.
USB Ports: Fans were really disappointed not to see a USB port on iPad when it was launched first time in 2010. The Cupertino tech maker has not yet introduced USB on iPad, which later got five models including the recent Mini iPad. It was rumored that Apple would launch the new Thunderbolt ports on the new iPads. But, that hope also did not materialise.
Digital Ink & Stylus: Microsoft has developed Surface Pro with the ability to accept stylus inputs. The company demoed the feature in its Oct. 26 media event and you can now use digital pens to write on the device’s larger display. It will be further easy for you to type texts on the device part from the Touch Cover.
Microsoft Office: Well, both the Windows RT and Pro versions offer the company’s much-touted Office productivity suite. On Windows RT, it will have only a mobile-optimized version. But, Windows Pro is to offer the full program. That is, you can run MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote on Surface Pro as you can open them on a PC.
