Samsung confirms the rumored Galaxy S3 Mini for European markets. The South Korean firm’s head for Mobile Communications, JK Shin has verified the rumors. In a press meet in Korea on Wednesday, Mr. Shin has said that the device will be officially announced in Germany on October 11. Samsung hasn’t exposed more details about the device. It will have a 4-inch display and will target the European markets due to the growing demand for 4-inch devices in the continent.
“We will be launching a 4-inch Galaxy S III on the 11th in Germany,” Shin stated. “There’s a lot of demand for a 4-inch screen device in Europe. Some call it an entry-level device, but we call it ‘mini.” Well, it looks Samsung is not to bring in the device as an entry-level variant to its flagship Android phone, the Galaxy S3. Perhaps, it will have rich specs and it will just be a small version of the Galaxy S3, rather than an entry-level and low-price edition.
Most high-end devices tend to have 4.5-inch or larger displays. We have Galaxy S3 with a 4.8-inch display, HTC One X with a 4.7-inch display and many more. Samsung would have thought differently to add a new screen size to the high-end phone line. It might have resulted in the upcoming S III Mini, analysts think. As well, the device may be taking on the potential competition from the new iPhone 5, which is now a leading phone with a small 4-inch display.
Samsung Galaxy S III Mini; Rumored Specs
Samsung has not yet revealed specs of the Galaxy S3 Mini. We will have to wait until October 11 to have a view at the specs list of the phone. It doesn’t anyway prevent rumor mills to churn out speculations over the specs and features of the device. To begin with, it is hoped that the handset will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. See, the original Galaxy S3 is yet to get the firmware update.
Under the hood, Galaxy S3 Mini is to hide a powerful quad core Exynos CPU, 1GB of RAM and 16GB and 32GB internal memory. There may also have an 8MP rear camera and 1.9MP front camera so like its original. Indeed, rumor mills expect a powerful battery and rich connectivity options. The device may come with NFC other than Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB port and more.
Scope for a Mini Galaxy S3
Galaxy S3 is Samsung’s most advanced Android phone ever. The device is known for its larger display, great form factor with ultra-slimness and Exynos quad core processor. Like all other Galaxy S phones, the device could gain the fame as the best Android phone in the market. But, is there a chance for a small Galaxy S3 Mini? Of course, there is. Samsung is coming with the device with a goal to draw the attention of customers, who look for small smartphones with quad core, of course.
As per the company, European market has huge demand for 4-inch phones. Other markets like North America and Asia may also welcome a small version of Galaxy S3. Many people don’t like to carry a bulky handset in their pockets. So what about a small device with the same innards of the larger one? It might be the thought that would have led Samsung researchers to suggest for a small Galaxy S3 Mini.
Anyway, the device is now officially verified. We have to wait a couple of days to have a look at the new S3 incarnation. Of course, we can expect the device in the same form factor and attractive color choices of its mainstream version. Galaxy S3 has grabbed much attention for its natural colors. Customers seem to have widely appreciated the ‘made for human’ motto of the phone. Maybe, the upcoming Galaxy S3 Mini would be a small device really made for humans.
