Apple iPhone 5: To go with Verizon or AT&T?

Everyone is in search for the best carrier to go for Apple’s new iPhone 5. They are wondering whether to chose Verizon or AT&T or by the way any other network offering the device

The Apple iPhone 5 will be the bestselling smartphone of all times – that exactly what experts are predicting. The latest iPhone set a record when the presales topped 2 million orders in a single day. The mobile device has the latest in connectivity – 4G LTE, but to get the best features or choose one from the other on a priority basis, you need to know what the different carriers are offering of your iPhone 5.

The Apple iPhone 5 will make inroads with 8 national carriers in the U.S. and each one has something over the other, making it rather difficult to make the choice. There’s AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile in the list.

The 4G LTE is the most important aspect when it comes to choosing the service provider, and for that Verizon Wireless offers the best. Verizon has the best 4G coverage and also scores the best when it comes to network quality.

If you are in an area where 4G coverage isn’t great but there’s 3G, the obvious choice would be AT&T. Another great thing about AT&T is that it allows you to simultaneously talk and surf, and that’s an important feature if you use GPS and receive calls in between. Of course 4G is exponentially faster than 3G, but if you are out of coverage, you won’t actually go for it. Though having a faster 3G network than Verizon, AT&T has one drawback and that’s call drop and less network reliability.

Meanwhile, Sprint has just turned to LTE and the reliability of the network isn’t that good as of now. Both Verizon and Sprint won’t offer simultaneous voice and data. But then, there are many other phones on these networks which enable calls and data at the same time.

That said, there is every possibility that simultaneous voice and data will be possible on these networks too when voice over LTE or VoLTE makes its entry. VoLTE sends voice calls over 4G LTE and supports the feature with a single antenna. But the feature is still going to take some more time.

Those who have some great plans with the carriers need not panic about moving over to a new one, but those who are first-time buyers need to carefully evaluate their usage and go for what they need the most.

The Apple iPhone 5 is going to be a huge success for all the carriers, because people want the iPhone.  Every carrier has its own advantages and disadvantages, and users will choose a plan according to their needs. Most carriers would want to move ahead with the new technology and the iPhone 5 is a great selling proposition for them and nobody would like to miss it out.

The Apple iPhone 5 will come in three versions with a two-year contract and will cost the user $199, $299, and $399. The profit margins are, however, not going to be the same for all the carriers and the love-hate relationship with Apple is likely to continue. The subsidy that the carriers will pay Apple will range between $400 and $425 for each unit.
