EarPods, adaptors to come with iPhone 5

The Apple iPhone 5 with a larger screen is the thinnest, lightest, and fastest of all iPhones. An amazing design, but the fruit company definitely knows how to make a plump profit out of accessories as well.

In redesigning the iPhone, Apple has invented technologies that did not exist. In the process of achieving that, Apple has chucked off the 30-pin connector and introduced the lightning port that’s 80 percent smaller than its predecessor. While that leaves new buyers of the iPhone 5 amazed, the owners of older Apple devices aren’t too happy about it.

Apple is of course selling an adaptor that will pacify those who still need the 30-pin connector, but the cost is an unassuming $29. At this price, the adaptor to connect older accessories is nothing less than an annoyance. That makes us think if Apple had already planned the move years before when they introduced the 30-pin connector. The connector was way too big and a smaller connector could have been there even with the technology that Apple had at that time. Good business instincts we have to say!

There’s another great addition to the list of accessories – the EarPods, Apple’s new name for earphones. Apple stressed that it studied thousands of ears and after a series of endless redesigns, came up with the new in-ear earphones. Apple claims the new earphones have better protection against water and sweat, and are more likely to stay in the ears even while running. The acoustics have remarkably improved at the same time.

The EarPods will come with the iPhone 5, but if you buy them separately, yet again you have to part with $30.  People with older versions of the iPhone buy the combo of the EarPods and lightning adaptor will surely add considerably to the profit margins of Apple.

There’s Bluetooth to the rescue that can make things a bit brighter, still the older accessories will find little or no use at all.

There’s one consolation however – the Apple iPhone 5 has a design unlike any of its predecessors or even any of its competitors. The body is tougher than ever before. The back of the iPhone is made of the same grade of aluminum used in the Apple notebooks. There is still some ceramic and pigmented glass that is used in the inlays along the top and the bottom.

The currently unlikeable things about the iPhone 5 are also going be the best part about the product and the line of accessories. To the extra features to some extraordinary ones, Apple has stuffed the iPhone 5 with some really tiny parts. The best part comes with the LTE chip design. Conventionally, there are two chips – one for voice and one for data. The iPhone 5 has a single chip for the LTE.

Finally, the display is indeed radical. The iPhone 5 is the first to sport a Retina Display with integrated touch. There is no separate layer for touch electrodes, instead the pixels work both as touch electrodes and displaying the image.

The changes are no doubt radical and a game changer for Apple, but for the time being, users will continue to feel the pinch.
