Jakarta, (IANS) Automobile major Tata Motors said Tuesday it is starting a new subsidiary in Indonesia to foray into both passenger and commercial vehicles.
“We will establish deeply rooted local operations and will grow in tandem with the prosperity of the country and its people,” Karl Slym, managing director Tata Motors, said here in a statement.
According to the company, it will begin launching its products in 2013, for which preparations have already begun.
The company will also display 14 models of its passenger and commercial vehicles being considered for progressive introduction in Indonesia, at the 20th Indonesia International Motor Show to held in Jakarta from Sep 20, 2012.
By the time of product launch, the company plans to have about 10 to 15 dealers nationwide, offering sales, service and spare parts.
Over a period of three years, the company will set up a country-wide network of about 60 full-service dealers, about 100 workshops and about 300 spare parts retailers.
The company is also evaluating options for setting up a manufacturing base in Indonesia to serve the country and the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations)region. Significant investments will also be planned for component localisation.
Currently the company offers a wide range of products from small cars to buses in passenger vehicles, and from 0.5T mini-trucks to 49T heavy trucks in commercial vehicles.
