Do you want to run Android Jelly Bean on your Samsung Galaxy Nexus? The official OS update is still far away. But, you can run the firmware on Galaxy Nexus using various custom ROMs that developers have posted on different dev sites like XDA-Developers. A recent build from an XDA developer is a nice way you can upgrade your Samsung handset to the latest Android version. Called JRO03O, the custom ROM weighs at 146.6MB and it can install Jelly Bean on your handset quite instantly.
If you don’t prefer to download Jelly Bean in your Nexus handset this way you will have to wait for the official update. No Samsung, Google and service providers have said anything about the official update of the handset to the new firmware. Samsung has really started selling the fresh versions of the third Google Nexus phone with the update. It was a step taken in order to thwart an Apple-interested shipment ban over the handset in the U.S. Yet, the old users of the handset are yet to get the firmware update.
Verizon and Sprint delay the update
Customers are restless with the delay in firmware update for Nexus. Many people went on to buy the signature Android phone from Google in hope that they will get the updates sooner. But, they are saddened to hear that Verizon and Sprint delayed the firmware update. CNET analyst Marguerite Reardon has linked the delay in Jelly Bean update as the carrier’s slow updating process. The analyst refuted the point that the delay was due to the CDMA nature of the Verizon and Sprint Galaxy Nexus. There is no significant change in firmware update whether the handset supports CDMA or GSM, says the analyst.
Jelly Bean to hit Nexus by the end of August
There is a talk that the Nexus will get the update soon after Samsung’s Galaxy S3’s potential update on August 29. An unconfirmed source says that Samsung is to roll out Jelly Bean to Galaxy S3 on Aug. 29. “August 29th is currently the day that is heavily rumored to be the roll out date for the Galaxy S III Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. That date is backed up by the fact that the official Galaxy S III Android 4.1 update has leaked to the surface already,” says Gottabemobile.
Hence, Samsung may also bring the firmware update to Galaxy Nexus following Galaxy S3. The company may not tarnish the brand name of Nexus, which came to be as the third version of Google’s official Android handset series called Nexus. The handset premiered Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year. There will be nothing astounding even if we hear that the Galaxy S3 and Nexus will get the software update on the same day on August 29. The Jelly Bean update is hoped to give a new look and feel for the handset.
Galaxy Nexus and Jelly Bean
Nexus is actually the first device in the world to publicly run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Being Google’s reference handset for ICS, people hoped that the device will get firmware update earlier than other devices. Indeed, Google has a tradition of updating its handsets with the fresh firmware even before other tech makers. That is why users largely look for the Jelly Bean update on Nexus alongside the update for Galaxy S3.
Android Jelly Bean update is to bring lots of dazzling features to the handset. The new Android version is made with several incredible features like Project Butter for boosting CPU performance, Google Now for speech recognition, Android Beam for NFC-based data sharing and more. If you are impatient enough to wait for the official Jelly Bean update you can do the job with custom ROMs. Even if not secure for the handset, it is a good way to update the handset with the firmware.
