Gurgaon, (IANS) The employees of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) Sunday offered prayers for senior executive Awanish Kumar Dev who died in the violence at the company’s Manesar plant in Haryana July 18.

“The employees were joined by representatives of the village communities around the plant. Sarpanches (village heads), village elders and panchayat members performed a ‘hawan’ for peace and harmony at the factory,” a company spokesperson said.

The plant in Manesar, which was shut after the violence that claimed the senior executive’s life and left over 100 people injured, will resume operations Tuesday.

The company has sent termination notices to 500-odd workers, including the 154 who have been arrested for indulging in the July 18 violence, while around 1,900 contract labourers have been virtually sacked by the management.
