After Samsung Galaxy S3 launch, 11.8-inch P10 from company to be the biggest launch. Samsung apparently plans to roll out an 11.8-inch Android tablet. The Verge has gathered the information from the reams of court docs the Korean tech maker filed in its $2.5 billion patent lawsuit against Apple. As mentioned by some sources, the 11.8-inch tablet will be codenamed the P10. The gadget is set to feature a large Retina-like display that packs a great resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio.
“Court documents made public in the epic Apple v. Samsung trial that kicked off in California today reveal that Samsung is working on a tablet codenamed “P10″ that would include LTE connectivity and an 11.8-inch display at 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA) resolution,” The Verge writes. In fact, it is not the first site to talk about the large Android tablet from the Korean tech maker. BGR in December 2011 leaked some info about the proposed large and high-resolution Android tablet.
BGR further noted that Samsung would unveil the gadget at the Mobile World Congress 2012. However, what Samsung showcased in the event was a 10.1-inch version of Samsung Note. Even though, the tech maker has not yet started shipping the Note 10.1. It may soon start selling the larger edition of Note; plus we can expect for an official demonstration of the 11.8-inch tablet. The particular machine will possibly raise huge threat to Microsoft’s recently announced 10.6-inch Surface tablets.
Retina-esque Display
Apple’s new iPad (the third generation) comes with huge 2048 x 1536 screen resolution thanks to its Retina display technology. No doubt, there is not a competitive display technology to Apple’s smart and brilliant Retina. Retina display means that pixels on the screen are not visible to human eyes. That is, Retina display provides breath-taking clarity for tablets, smartphones and other devices. The new iPad’s display offers 2048 x 1536 screen resolution at 264 pixels.
As per sources, Samsung, a leading player in display market as well, is to produce a Retina display-like screen for its new tablet. The screen will offer a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels at around 256 ppi. Exact details about the display of the device are not available. Indeed, we can expect that it might have something that will make it competitive to iPad and other high resolution tablets.
Other Features
Samsung documents further indicate that the 11.8-inch tablet would feature Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity. There is no mention about the ports, media card readers and other elements. One another excellent thing we can certainly expect for the tablet is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. If the device is to hit market sometime late this year, it will certainly preload the new Android version.
Jelly Bean has just been debuted on Google’s Nexus 7 tablet. The latest version of Android seems to have enough potential to fight Microsoft’s Windows RT, the special variant of Windows 8 for ARM-based tablets. Windows RT-based Surface RT will be a critical threat for the proposed large Android tablet, analysts think.
Samsung P10 Release Date and Price
We have no clear idea about the release date and price of the rumored 11.8-inch tablet. The court documents reportedly indicate that the P10 is set for a 2012 release. But, there is no official information from the part of Samsung about a media event for the device’s release. For now, there is a talk that the Koran tech giant is planning to take place a press event on Aug. 15 in New York City. But, some think that it might be an event to announce the official availability of the keenly awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. There is also no clear mention about the price of the large tablet.
