Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has once again given that perfect result that brings in applause from all around. Even people who hate him, also accept that they haven’t seen a runner like him and challenge him to run in longer races to show whether he remains that fast in slightly longer version of sprinting. They say as the distance increases, he may well not be able to show the same level of energy that he generates in 100m shoot-out or 200 meter race.
He has anointed himself as the legend of our times and we are all forced to accept him as such as we don’t really have any other option. During the last Olympic in Beijing, people said, let the Olympic pass and see him fail. But that remained a dream for his detractors as he excelled further in the game.
Then his detractors had another hope to beat him at his own game, another Jamaican Yohan Blake. They said he will prove his nemesis and many a times he actually threatened to be, but when it came to crunch time, he again failed in front of Bolt.
It is not that Usain Bolt disrespects his opponents. The sprinter says he always respects the seven competitors who stand on the start line with him. He just does not believe any of them can beat him. “I’ve said it for years and years. If I get a good start nobody can get past me. Because I’m the best” he told media last year after winning an important race.
Many reports suggest that in among the present competitors, no one can manage his speed. Most of the fans feel disappointed when they seem him content to be beating his rivals and not trying to win the race by huge margins. A report says, “When the other men reach their top speed, their limit, Usain Bolt continues to accelerate. By the fifty-meter mark, he has caught up to the leader. By the sixty-meter mark, a noticeable gap has emerged between him and the rest of the pack. By the seventy-meter mark, he is covering more than twelve meters of ground — about forty feet — every second, a pace faster than the speed limit for automobiles in most neighborhoods. Nobody has ever moved this fast before under his own power. Usain Bolt’s top speed is simply significantly higher than anyone else’s, ever”.
His fans are on cloud nine. An awestruck fan has this to say, “Bolt leaves us wondering how fast he can REALLY go because he is a smart guy. He knows imagination stimulates the mind to believe things that are unrealistic to indeed become realistic. He is no doubt the greatest sprinter ever, but i’m not expecting a 9.5 in next month’s worlds championship”.
