2012 Olympics: Usain Bolt 200m gold in merely 19.32sec (video highlights)

It will be very tough to break his records in future as he seems to be on a roll in 2012 Olympics. Usain Bolt 200m gold medal came in merely 19.32sec (video highlights)

Usain Bolt has qualified in the 400m race too. There are many who say that he wouldn’t be able to win gold in it as he is not really made out for it. But wasn’t it till the other day when they said similar words about him before the beginning of 100 meter and 200 meter as well. But he went on to prove all his detractors wrong.

He was able to beat his challengers so easily that it looked like a cakewalk. Someone rightly notes that he was not tired when he completed not just his 100 meter shoot-out, but also 200 meter race. He was not perspiring when he won the gold like his fellow Jamaicans.

Many people including Carl Lewis, former world sprinting great had suggested that Usain Bolt’s success may be due to the consumption of performer enhancing drugs. The former American sprinter had suggested that the Jamaican dominance in the game was because of the faulty doping testing in Jamaica.

Meanwhile not just Usain Bolt attacked Lewis for his unwarranted statement that tried to disrepute the achievements of Jamaican sprinters, his fans too are attacking him for the remark. “You can debate whether Lewis was the greater athlete or Olympian and that is a VERY legitimate argument but the fact remains that Lewis never set world records in the long jump and never doubled in the 100m and 200m the way Bolt has; If Bolt can triple up in the 4x100m AND come back and do it again in Rio then he has eclipsed Lewis and put Phelps in the shade. We have to climb outside of the US bubble and focus on the fact that Bolt has won five gold medals in arguably the three most important events in the Olympics”, says a Bolt fan.

After winning the 200m in London Olympics, Bolt asked Lewis to keep his mouth shut and said, “I’m going to say something controversial right now. Carl Lewis, I have no respect for him…The things he says about the track athletes is really downgrading for another athlete to say something like that. I think he’s just looking for attention, really, because nobody really talks much about him”.

Meanwhile another reader says, “Lewis statement seems to a case of sour grapes. He seems to be another whiner who can’t stand the thought that someone eclipsed his record. I have no idea what Jamaica’s drug testing protocol is, but I do Know that all winners in any event are drug tested by the IOC. Since Mr. Bolt has obviously been found to be clean the record is his, and well deserved. As a contrasting aside: When Geeroy Simon broke Milt Steagal’s CFL record for most yards by a receiver, Mr. Steagal was at the game to personally congratulate Mr. Simon. The contrast in the level of class is remarkable”. But right detractors need to take a chill pill and allow Usain Bolt and his fellow Jamaican sprinters to take a break and enjoy their success.

Maybe the IOC should re-test Carl Lewis samples if at all possible. He is sounding as if he want to get some guilt off his mind.
