Aly Raisman wins gold

She was the Apple of US media. There were predictions and predictions about her and numerous features were written about her in almost every big and small media outlets and everyone predicted one thing –the arrival of a superstar on the scene.

She was expected to win gold in the all-around and when she couldn’t qualify for it –for whatever reasons –her fans severely criticised the International Olympic Committee for its ridiculous rule where only two members from a country can go to final despite all of them performing better than the rest.

Jordyn Wieber is great in floor exercise, but yesterday she looked very ordinary. I really failed to understand as to why she left her electric performance in the USA when she started out for London. It was really disappointing. Another disappointment was caused by the fact that all-around Olympic gold medallist Gabby Douglas too performed very poorly in yesterday’s floor. She isn’t as bad in floor as she looked last night.

But Gabby clarified that the sudden stardom following the all-around gold had distracted her. Nonetheless she can be happy notwithstanding the loss in beam. The 16-year old Douglas has already two gold medals to show –one in all-around –and the other one in team and both came after great performances from her.

Meanwhile the fans of US gymnastics team are expressing their joy over the superb performance of the US women’s team. A reader says, “I am so happy for Aly Raisman, but sad for Jordan Weiber that she was not able to redeem herself on the floor exercise. I read on the news that she has a suspected stress fracture that she knew about before the Olympics. She just kept it quiet and competed anyways”. Another reader says, “A little disappointing end for Gabby, but it seems like the AA and team competition just took it out of her. But she still has two golds, so she is doing just fine. All of them still have so much to be proud of in these Olympics”. Jordyn Wieber meanwhile seems to have performed badly of all the women gymnasts. But she is a world champion and is expected to make great return.
