iPhone 5 rumors continue: Can Apple make it truly revolutionary

iPhone 5 release date rumors continue to spread following a comment from a Verizon executive. Meanwhile people wonder if Apple can make iPhone 5 a truly revolutionary product

Apple fans are anxiously awaiting the launch of the next generation iPhone 5. For them this will be the best smartphone ever launched and will put Samsung on its ‘rightful’ place, at number 2. Since Galaxy S3’s launch in late May, Samsung’s latest smartphone has been reaping fruits of lack of credible competitor from Apple, and only the forthcoming iteration of iPhone can save it from playing second fiddle to Samsung.

Meanwhile more and more details are coming out from different quarters – even Apple associates are talking about the immediate launch of next gen Apple smartphone. If Foxconn CEO talked of Samsung Galaxy S III as no match for iPhone 5, there are others who are saying that iPhone 5 is not far away.

Foxconn is the main manufacturer of Apple smartphones and employs tens of thousands of workers in its factories in China. Last month its CEO claimed that Samsung’s latest phone will prove a dud when Apple’s next gen iPhone is introduced in the market. Meanwhile a top Verizon official too has indicated an early launch of next generation Apple phone. Verizon CFO, Francis J. Shammo while talking to media said, “There is always that Rumour Mill out there with a new phone coming out in the fourth quarter. And so people may be waiting.” He made the comment while accepting that iPhone 4S’ demand has slowed in recent times.

Apple fans are anxiously awaiting the launch of new iPhone due to several reasons. The reason of high level of interest is the fact that the forthcoming iPhone is going to get bigger by several notches. Several images of the forthcoming version of iPhone 5 have made splash across the world so far. Recently images allegedly showing the back of the next-generation iPhone have surfaced online, seemingly corroborating reports that the next-gen Apple phone will be larger and accommodate a more expansive screen. At a time when Android phones have majored from 3 and 4 inch displays to close to 5 inch display, iPhone still comes with a tiny 3.5 inch display.

Macrumors and 9to5 Mac have posted pictures showing the iPhone 5 to be taller and coming with definitely a bigger form factor. Meanwhile there are more leaks about the processor and the sort of camera that will come with the next generation of iPhone 5. Another report in 9to5 Mac suggests that new smartphone from Apple will come loaded with ARM_S5L8950X chipset. Earlier reports had suggested an A6 processor, but now reports indicate it will come with the same A5X processor that was part of new iPad or iPad 3. A report in Macrumors suggests that the processor in iPhone 5 will be at least a 1GHz dual core. It further speculates that the new Apple phone will come with 1GB of RAM and SGX543RC GPU. But to be true, none of these features revealed by rumors so far, do not make the next generation iPhone to be a revolutionary product in any sense. All these features with much more improvement are part of Android smartphones that are in circulation in the market for months.

Meanwhile to make iPhone a truly revolutionary product, a reader has sent us this comment suggesting Apple to make its phone truly ‘revolutionary’. “What is the chance that the phone has a 7″ screen and is the bridge between smartphone and tablet? Add a nifty little bluetooth headset (using Siri as the interface) so you don’t have to put a giant phone up to your ear, and you may have a winner. And if anyone has the marketing clout to bring cargo pants with big pockets back into fashion, it’s Apple”, says the reader.
