Retina MacBook Pro is the best laptop on offer

The slimmed-down version of Apple’s MacBook Pro, that now boasts a super-high-resolution 15-inch Retina Display, is making admirers hyperventilate and ooze superlatives in reviews.

The new MacBook Pro is being considered a big leap in screen technology. Reviewers say that seeing is believes – for imagining and capturing the clarity and sharpness of the 3.5-inch screen of an iPhone spread into a 15-inch plane with 2880-x-1800-pixel density is not something one can do without the MacBook open before one’s eyes.

Retina MacBook Pro is not just about how it looks. The Apple laptop has no hard drive. There is a flash-based solid-state drive (SSD) in the name of storage. It is paired with the latest Intel Core i7 processor to give one exhilaratingly zappy performance.

Apple laptops have been notoriously hot and are ironically said to melt laps and induce fevers at close proximity for long hours. Apple claims Retina MacBook Pro is cool.

Reviewers scoffed and wondered how that large a Retina Display can stay cool. They put the laptop under thermal imaging and found the device to be surprisingly cool – ice-cool by laptop standards. The laptop only heated up when it was made to run numerous heavy programs for some time and then it became uncomfortable on the lap. But users would most probably place it atop their desks and admire it long and hard before testing how long it can last on their laps!

The Retina model comes packed with 8GB of RAM. This can be doubled at an added cost of $200 to the price tag of $2,199. Then there is a 256GB SSD. The Core i7 chip gallops at 2.3GHz with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip. For those given to video work and gaming, or if someone wants to run three external monitors, there is an option of an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics chip with 1GB of video RAM or).

Among other features are two high-speed Thunderbolt ports and two USB 2.0/3.0 ports gracing each side. There is also an SDXC card slot and an HDMI port to let users connect to home entertainment systems.

Those wishing to have even bulkier memory can opt for the costlier $2,799 MacBook Pro model that comes equipped with a faster 2.6GHz i7 chip and 512GB of SSD storage. The processor can further be enhanced to 2.7GHz for $250, and the storage stretched to a 768GB SSD for $500. for those who are still not satisfied, they can shell out another $200 for an the option list for 16GB of RAM The 2.3GHz Core i7 version is priced at $1,799, and the 2.6GHz model can be had for $2,199. These models still offer the option of upgrading memories by the users later on.

In India, the Retina MacBook Pro is priced at roughly Rs.1,52,000. This is about Rs. 30,000 less than the price going in the US and Hong Kong.

I have this dream Retina laptop and it is awesome. Did a bit of torture test by playing 12 different windows of 12 different HD movies while converting a full lenght blu-ray iso into an iPad movie, using Handbrake for 1 hour straight and the bottom of the laptop is barely warm. I could hear hear the fans kicking in but not loud at all. You have to put your ear near the back to even know that they are on.

Without pushing the CPU, the fans are totally silent. It really is the best laptop on the planet.

“These models still offer the option of upgrading memories by the users later on.”

This is false – the RAM is *not* user-upgradeable.
