Barnes & Noble is planning to introduce the next-gen Nook Tablet to fight Google Nexus 7 tablet
Google has just brought us a revolutionary 7-inch Nexus 7 Android tablet. After its launch, the tech world has been speculating about Nexus 7 competitors from Amazon and Apple. Well, whispers on the chance of a next-gen Kindle Fire and a mini iPad have been there for a long time. But, we have a fresh talk about a next version Nook Tablet against Nexus 7. As per a recent report by CNET, Barnes & Noble is apparently working to upgrade its Nook Tablet with a “revolutionary screen technology” and superior specs.
Referring to “a credible source,” David Carnoy of CNET writes that the Nook Color and Nook Tablet manufacturer are working to launch a new version for its 7-inch tablet. The new edition of its Kindle Fire killer will have a “revolutionary screen technology,” the source, which CNET claims as having a proven track record, predicts. Apart from the info about a high resolution screen, CNET has exposed nothing about the specs and other features of the possible tablet. The site just mentions that it will be lighter than its predecessor.
Tablet for eReading
Nook Tablet, similar to Amazon Kindle Fire, came to market as a platform for eReading. Well, as per CNET’s source, Barnes & Noble plans to continue its focus on the “reading experience” with the new version of Nook Tablet. The device will preload an advanced version of Nook Store, which will have some additional media options. “The source couldn’t tell us specifically what those options were, but given that the Nook lacks the sort of dedicated music and video store found on the Nexus 7 (Google Play) and Kindle Fire (Amazon video and music), that seems like an obvious avenue for an updated Nook,” writes CNET.
Android or Windows tablet?
This question is of high importance. Indeed, the original version of Nook Tablet runs on Android. But, there is a talk that Microsoft has made some investment in Barnes & Noble. TechCrunch reported that Microsoft had some investment in the company. And, thanks to the deal, its next gen tablet will come with Xbox Live Streaming. Some sources even reported that the book vendor would launch its next tablet with Microsoft’s Windows RT. But, the CNET source has said that the new Nook Tablet will come up with an extremely skinned version of Android. The original Nook has Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Nexus 7 has hit stores with the most recent Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Certainly, if the rumors are true, the second Kindle Fire will also get the latest version of Android.
Nook Tablet 2 Vs Kindle Fire 2 Vs Nexus 7
Nexus 7 is starting to create waves in tech markets. within hours after its official release, retailers across the U.S. and U.K ran out of their stocks. There is a huge demand for this Jelly Bean-based eReader friendly tablet. Indeed, a quad processor, good resolution display and an attractive price tag make the Nexus 7 a brilliant product out there. We have only rumors about the Kindle Fire 2 and Nook Tablet 2. However, for the companies to stand up in the 7-inch tablet market, they need to produce competitors to Nexus 7.
It will be a tough job for both Amazon and Barnes & Noble to take on Google. Google had developed its 7-inch tablet after great market analysis. Asus has built the conceptual product for Google. Certainly, with its rich hardware features from Asus and software support from Google, Nexus 7 is now a crucial threat for Amazon and B&N in designing upgrades for their 7-inch tablets.
