HTC One X Vs iPhone 4S: Features and specs face-off

Both are outstanding products and people are loving them. Here Abdul Vahid V compares HTC One X Vs iPhone 4S’ Features and specs

The One X is the top-of-the-line of HTC’s new One series of Android handsets. The Taiwanese tech maker showcased its One series of phones – One S and One V besides the One X – at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona. HTC later shipped the models on different occasions. The One X, as noted above is the top-end version of the series as it runs on a quad core processor and other superior specs. We compare this Android 4.0 ICS-based handset with Apple’s flagship iPhone’s latest version, the iPhone 4S. Apple launched iPhone 4S in October 2011 and is soon to surface a path-breaking iPhone 5 upgrade for the series. Here, we compare HTC One X and iPhone 4S to help remove your confusion in picking up the best handset.

Form factor
The iPhone 4S has the typical 3.5-inch form factor. It is a time people are largely attracted towards large-screen smartphones. HTC’s One X wins here with a large 4.7-inch display. Indeed, the One X is one of the best handsets available with a large screen in stores today. With its 8.9mm thin body, the One X is slightly slimmer than iPhone 4S that is 9.3mm thicker.

“The iPhone has been, and may remain, relatively tiny for a smartphone. Right now it’s not the thinnest phone at 9mm, but it does have the smallest screen size of any smartphone at just 3.5-inch. And most people want larger screens,” says Gadget Review. In weight as well, One X, with 130 grams, wins over iPhone 4S that weighs at 140 grams. In length and width, the iPhone 4S is tinier with the dimensions of 115.2 x 58.6mm and One X measures at 134.4 x 69.9mm.

Display screen
HTC One X has an apparent dominance over iPhone 4S with its large display. The handset comes with a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen that packs 720 x 1280 pixels at 312 ppi. The iPhone 4S, as we know, touts a crammed 3.7-inch LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen. The Retina display features a resolution of 640 x 960 pixels at 330 ppi. Both the handsets have Corning’s Gorilla Glass anti-scratch technology.

Processor, RAM and GPU
One X is the first quad core-powered handset from HTC. The company has slotted in a 1.5GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor inside the device with 1GB of RAM and ULP GeForce graphical processing unit. On the other hand, iPhone 4S is there with a 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor mounting Apple’s A5 chipset. A modest 512MB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphical processor power up the handset.

Storage and connectivity
The HTC handset implants only 32GB of internal memory for storage. Unfortunately, the handset has no microSD slot and thus you have no option to boost storage capacity. At the same time, Apple offers three memory variants for iPhone 4S; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Apple has never had implemented a microSD slot on its iPhone series ever.

Going by connectivity features, the One X offers GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and a microUSB 2.0 port. The new iPhone shows off GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and USB 2.0 as connectivity options.

Camera
As the primary camera, HTC One X packs an 8-megapixel sensor with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and face and smile detection. You can capture video at 1080p@24fps and with stereo sound and check quality. A 1.3-megapixel front camera is there for video chatting. This secondary camera can capture video at 720p. The latest iPhone also has an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and face detection. The rear camera can capture video at 1080p@30fps. Plus, the handset sports a VGA front camera that can shoot video at 480p.

Final thoughts
It is a bit difficult to find a winner in this comparison. It is because we have iPhone 4S and HTC One X from two different platforms; Android and iOS. So, a person, who has interest in iOS, only has iPhone 4S as the premium option until iPhone 5 comes out. But, when it comes to the specs, One X is a better product than iPhone. The HTC phone boasts a large display, quad core CPU and other advanced features.
